The 888 a big last and fits wider feet better. It also has a bit more square toe. The city is very simple and elegant without being square-toed/fashion forward like the Louvre.

I really like the Smith loafers but I do not commit to buy because of the sole.
Is there any particular reason for this style to have an open channel and pretty basic sole while your other styles have a beautiful and more refined sole ?

The main reason is to offer both open and closed channel soles in our collection so customers have options. We think not closing the channel in the loafers of our collection makes sense as they are not as classic as oxfords, derbies or monks.
