Charles Tyrwhitt - ties and chinos

Does anyone have any experience with these? What is the quality like? Are there any places with similar prices that offer good quality in ties and/or chinos?

I'm still not sold on where to buy my ties and my chinos (or my sports jackets, for that matter, as there don't seem to be great shopping places for those online).

What about their covert coats? I seem to remember reading somewhere that a lot of people need to go a size up as they run a bit small.

Anyone have one?

Are the shirts advised to be ordered in slim-fit?

They have something of a reputation on here, and elsewhere, for poor quality control so check your purchases carefully for problems. I haven't got anything from them so I can't speak from personal experience and it may be a thing of the past, but a friend of mine had to return a few things he ordered because of faults.

Does anyone know how they would compare to, say, T.M. Lewin, a similarly priced brand?

The chinos are pretty baggy. Furthermore, all the buttons have Charles Tyrwhitt written on them, which I find surprisingly irritating.

Not for £30. The construction and fabric are nice enough. If you can forgive the branded buttons, it´s only the fit and lack of neutral colours available that are issues.

Thanks. Well if they have a bad fit, bad colours and are branded, then what's forgivable about them? What sort of price must I venture to for decent chinos?

Uniqlo's chinos have a closer fit, but are they crap?

Terrible, at least the flat front ones they´re currently flogging for £20. They have that incredibly ugly stitching on the outside of the trouser leg.

Dear me, thanks! I've avoided disaster it seems.

How expensive can I go then? Can one find good chinos for £50? £60 perhaps? And if so, where? I looked in a few places (like Acne) but £130 is a bit out of my budget.

The name slim-fit is a misnomer, they're nothing like Zara or H&M Shirts. Really they should be called mid-fit.

I have one, bought a couple years ago, and it is slim. Works great over a shirt or sweater but is a bit too tight to be worn properly over a coat without pulling.

I bought mine at about half off the usual asking price, and at that price point, I consider it a good deal. Not many options in RTW covert coats.
