Someone here must know Chamonix well. A couple of friends are starting to put together a ski trip for this winter, so I'm looking for things like--where to stay that's close to lifts & apres, what sort of weather to expect, is it better to bring girls or find them there?

Much obliged-

Tom

My favorite place to stay is the Albert 1er ... but it sounds like we may have different priorities.

By the way, I've no idea. I've been to Morzine-Avoriaz and Les Arcs (1800), which are both relatively close to Chamonix, and they have a different vibe altogether. (1st seems very family oriented. Second more of a party place.) But I've aged 10 years since Les Arcs, so perhaps my perspective has changed.

Probably true. No mention anywhere on their site of how close they are to a lift, and a weak selection of Languedoc reds

For reference we're all 30ish professionals, hopefully with a mixed group of 10 or so. I've found a few listings to where we can get a catered chalet for a week, but after other ski trips in the Alps where I've stayed a "short warm-up walk" from a lift or from the town I'm nervous about unknowingly setting up on the far edge of the village.

Will there be any women in the group?
If so make sure there is a fireplace and bring blankets/bearfur for the wintersportsexxOrz
