Sorry to ask a noob question, but is there a latest (like within the latest 5 years) update of what the current hierarchy in terms of cashmere sweater makers actually is?

There is another version in the brand directory guide

I'm trying to add more nuances between vintage/current, top lines/main lines, etc.

Be advised that this project remains a work in progress. At present, more than 800 brands are featured across a wide range of categories.

These rankings are not without potential criticism; it would be impossible for me to possess in-depth expertise on such a broad spectrum of brands and categories.

Should anyone wish to contribute, your help would be greatly appreciated. I have been carefully curating this list over the years.

Have ordered my first Fioroni piece, having heard positive feedback from owners on quality and fit. I opted for a piece from their Puro Filo range (marketing blurb below). Will post pictures once received.

“Puro Filo" is a project born from the desire to select the most sought-after and valuable fibers, embracing their natural colors in its many shades and preserving their purity and innate softness while weaving together the essence of true luxury.

Looks lovely. Which website did you buy through ? I have been wanting to buy a piece on their website but it isn’t in stock in my size and they did not respond to my email to ask when it will be in stock / could they recommend a retailer that may have it .

There only appear to be limited online stockists of Fioroni generally online.

The sheet is getting perpetual updates but I’ve revoked everyone’s editing access because it led to some nonsensical entries. I’ve cleaned up most of it, as well as changed the rank of some brands after numerous factory visits this year

For any future input and ranking changes just comment or DM me

This undyed collection is quite nice, they have a slightly different hand feel ime, albeit being visually pretty similar to the Todd & Duncan undyed naturals color card

Interesting, thanks. In terms of hand feel, can you describe this in some more detail? For example, relative to other Fioroni pieces / other dyed pieces / other undyed pieces?

Thank you.

That’s correct. I was trying to provide a link to a similar piece to Ian to the one he shared via an alternative retailer.

The piece I ordered is as per the pictures in my original post and also available from this retailer.

Its a bit complicated when it comes to hand feel. But if you compare apples to apples is quite simple to detect if you have fragile hand feel
1) Apples to apples the undyed/natural has more rug feel compared to the same piece but in different colour
2) Keep in mind, if you order from them directly, even an undyed piece can feel the same if that particularly item in your size that you ordered was already return many times and the manufacture like Fioroni wash the garment before send it to you
On the long term, of course you can see the difference, the natural colour keeps it forever while other colours will start lose its shine based on how much care and how much "direct sunlight" it took

Good to know - thank you for this explanation.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
