Can you leave a button down shirt unbuttoned?

Ok here it goes ... I have a few shirts that I bought just because I love the pattern but they happen to be button down shirts ( little buttons on the collar) . Just curious if it's ok to leave the buttons unbuttoned ? I usually wear this style with jeans but most of the time with khakis . Tell me what you guys think ?

As Ian Malcolm says in Jurassic Park, 'Just because we CAN, doesn't mean that we SHOULD!'

It invariably looks ******* ****, even more so by those who really should know better. If you can't be bothered to button your collar buttons or buckle your monk straps then just give up and don't bother at all. It never looks good IMO.

Go for it. I do all the time. Nobody gives a ****, unless you're at some really formal thing. For casual stuff? Go nuts.

I beg to differ. Looks like **** even when worn with a jacket. The collar doesn't have any collar bones and inevitably "collapses"

Likely best to wear it unbuttoned and popped.

You can wear it inside out but you would likely not wish to be thought a fool for so doing, Likewise you would not wear a button down unbuttoned unless you wish to appear to be a scruffy and igmnorant oik.

I have some favorite, old heavy OCBD shirts that I just hang to dry and then wear them with well worn jeans or beat up unironed khakis and sneakers with the collar unbuttoned. But it's a full casual relaxed look.
