Well, that's annoying:

'Once this change takes effect, all your existing ‘Pre-owned’ clothing listings will automatically update to ‘Pre-owned - Good’'

Which means I have to edit 95% of my listings. I sure hope this can be done in bulk.

Anyone know if you can protect yourself from returns due to sizing issues? I'm listing a whole heap of leather jackets and don't really have the time for people trying it on. Can I just turn on not accept refunds and state in the listing that I don't accept refunds based on sizing, so please double check all measurements?

Disabling refunds is the move, but it comes with its own risks: You can post all the pictures and measurements you want, but if a buyer purchases your jacket and attempts to get his money back -- either through eBay or a credit card chargeback -- because it didn't fit, they'll use the "item wasn't as described" excuse. In most cases, even if your post is flawless and has ample information, eBay will, nine times out of ten, side with the buyer and force you to accept a return.

I've had plenty of experiences like that, and the only appeal I won was because a buyer never returned an item for me to issue a refund. eBay closed the case on this technicality, and I kept the money.

Since then, when selling clothes, I always allow returns but include as many details as possible in the post and pictures, even going as far as confirming with a buyer who sent me an offer if the item he wants matches his expectations. The extra communication has helped cut down on buy-to-fit returns.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
