Looks to me (no knowledge whatsoever) the cutting mold wasn't sharp enough, and they had to pull-out/tear off the cutouts.

It really depends on what your purpose of the shoe is and price, e.g. a pair of beaters. Personally, I don't buy shoes for the purpose of beating them up, but eventually a pair gets downgraded (usually due to being comfortable, used a lot and scuffed with normal use).

They are a good price but I think it would irk me too much. Even a ‘good’ price for these kind of shoes is a lot of money, and too much for beaters as you say.

Yeah, I have large enough a rotation that I don't need another shoe just for the purpose of having a cost-efficient option. I buy shoes because they make me happy and I look forward to wearing them. If there are minor niggles (like defects, visual imperfections, fit issues) those affect my enjoyment.

A great fitting shoe that shows some wear and scratches overtime is absolutely fine. Those are just testaments of the enjoyment.
