I'm looking to get a few belts but I have no idea if I should go for brass or silver buckles. Probably a small point in the grand scheme of things, but what do you guys prefer and recommend, and should you try to match metals? I don't wear much tailoring, I'm more of an OCBD with chinos/selvedge jeans, loafers and occasional sports jacket kinda guy. So I was wondering if that at all make a difference in terms of which would work best with what I typically wear.

Silver is easier to match, IMHO. Monk strap shoes, for example, almost always have silver buckles. Cufflinks, bracelets, watch stripes - those also usually come in silver.

I would agree that silver is generally easier to match, but I do think that a gold buckle can add a warm accent, especially for a thinner belt where the buckle isn't as large. I have a thin suede belt with a gold buckle that I really like.
