I bought a pair of Canada West Chelsea boots, Romeo's. They're well made and look decent. If you don't know Canada West has a reputation for being over-sized. It is very true in this case. It's odd though, the problem with them is not the length or width but the size of the instep. Unless you're a Hobbit or have Flinstone as a surname definitely size down! I have tried insoles to fill them in a bit mostly unsuccessfully. Now that the temps are dropping where I am a thought occurred - boot inserts! My search pulls up the typical winter boot insert, not something that would work. Too big/thick kinda thing. Any suggestions on where I could find a warm, quality made insert that will fit a Chelsea?

If your problem is too much volume then I'm surprised that adding an insole didn't help much. What kind of insole did you try? Did you also try wearing thicker socks (obvious, I know)?

Yes, I have tried insoles, but only drugstore gel type things, they weren't thick enough. Don't underestimate the volume needed to fill, these things are cavernous! An insole is the alternative path I have if I can't find a full insert, there's a handmade alpaca one I have my eye on, that will hopefully be thick enough. I'd prefer an insert to fill the ankle out a bit too and make it a proper winter boot. I have been double socking with them, but there's still movement and it's caused holes to wear into the socks.

gel insoles aren't usually that thick -- I think maybe around ~4mm in the midfoot. You can get 8 mm felt insoles and could even stack two if you need.
