Black Belt and Tan Dress Shoes....

Obviously, it is typically almost always recommended to match belt & shoe color or at least have only both be black or both be a shade of brown. I pretty much always follow this rule. However, I once saw a man (who dresses extremely well and wears different designer and bespoke suits/sport coats with a tie/pocket square almost every day) pull off wearing a light gray suit with a black belt and tan double monk dress shoes. I was honestly pretty amazed to see someone who dressed so well to make such a choice, but it actually looked quite good and intentional rather than a beginner making a mistake by mixing brown/black leathers.

Is there ANY case where y'all would find a black belt and brown/tan dress shoes acceptable? Is this something that should be reserved for only the most experienced and fashion-forward individuals? I have a feeling many would say this should absolutely never be done but would be interested to hear your thoughts!

not a good look. Belts and shoes generally should match. There aren’t many exceptions regarding that rule.

I'm with the others. No, I would never wear a black belt with tan shoes.

If my clothing, and I'm talking more casual here, would look better with a dark belt and dark shoes but I had only tan shoes I might wear the dark belt. I'm thinking travel situations. One could argue I should have packed better but I am disorganized and it's hard to pack efficiently at five am for a seven am train.

Better to avoid belts w/ trousers in general and just wear braces anyway.
