Tried many of the brands listed above. American Apparel are the best for the price. James Perse shirts are the worst for the price. You can pick up American Apparel shirts for $8 per shirt + shipping on e-bay. Recently purchased 10 for $87 including shipping.

An extra benefit to American Apparel v-necks is the smorgasbord of colours they come in

I wear Tommy John. Tagless, form-hugging, v neck, long, light. They work very well for me, but at the same time I haven't tried many other brands.

Therefore, I'd say wearing an undershirt, which creates a barrier between your body and your expensive dress shirts, is MORE hygienic than going undershirt-less.

Nonsense.

I love Tommy John, but at $36 a pop, they seem a bit impractical. I only have one at this point, and am waiting to see how well it holds up over time before plunking down that much for more.

Not that much more expensive than Hanes / Polo/ whatnot, though I'll admit they are more expensive! Yet they don't shrink in the length as badly as those alternatives do. I have both the crewnecks and vnecks, and have no complaints with either. They did semi-recently switch to being made in Thailand instead of made in Canada. I've had no issues with the newer ones over a period of about 3 months - time will tell in the longer run.

I will say this - moving from Hanes was like a revelation!

+1. i love brooks undershirts. wore calvin klein for a while but they shorten up too much. wore polo for a while but the collar too easily became mishapen. have worn brooks for the past 2 years and love them.

Old Navy has some alright undershirts.
They are very tight fitting so they feel comfortable under other shirts.

you do realize that most undershirts/tank tops can be seen underneath a dress shirt regardless of quality, neck shape, price, brand, length..............right?

Hanes ComfortSoft are the best I've come across, especially since they got rid of the tag. I've tried some of the more expensive brands, but they just aren't as light and trim as the proper size ComfortSoft. Plus, they're very very affordable from Walmart. You could probably get 10 shirts for the price of a new tie!

Sorry, I meant they won't show at the collar. Of course undershirts will show through very fine fabric dress shirts.

screw cotton. I only wear Under Armour. Tagless, form fitting, ridicoulusly light weight. They don't shrink. I have some that are a year old and I honestly can barely tell a color difference and farbric wear is non-exsistent. They are heatgear version so they make you feel cool even when under a heavy weight suit. I know they are too "sporty" for most dudes here. They are also really thin, and you can hardly tell they are there even under super thin fabrics. these usally are not even on the radar for undershirts which is weird, I mean, Under Armour. http://www.underarmour.com/shop/us/e...ew/1209294-100 http://www.underarmour.com/shop/us/e...ck/105084V-100

I bought several undershirts and the one that I reallly like was the one I got from Duluth Trading Company
http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/c...4#ReviewHeader

The material was very soft (60% cotton/40% polyester) and the construction is excellent. Most importantly (to me), the seams were completely flat around the neck and shoulders, making it much more comfortable than other undershirts I've tried or owned. The fit is also quite slim. I wear an XS-sized J.Crew T-shirts, and the Duluth small-size fits about the same or maybe even slimmer.

Believe or not, there is a blog that focuses on undershirts if you want to further explore your options...

I'm intrigued by this recommendation. As an avid backpacker, I know the joy of coming out of the woods and slipping into glorious, glorious cotton clothing after spending days or weeks in polyester and nylon. Wearing polyester as my daily t-shirt seems counter-intuitive, but I may have to try it now.
