Ironically, Burns never wore, nor was he allowed to wear a kilt:

Robert Burns, the Scottish poet, wore breeches and the Shepherd's Check fabric, which is similar to a tartan plaid. He did not wear a kilt because it was illegal for Lowlanders like him to do so under the Dress Act of 1746. ( Wikipedia)

While he doesn't dress terribly, I think his trousers do him no favours. He's quite short, and the low rise trousers makes him look like mostly torso. Especially when combined with the high gorges.

Indeed, his "signature".

That thick tie knot and probably wide ties along with high spread long(ish) point
collar says "70s" That is probably when he formed his adult style. To me, it looks
like Carnaby Street combined with Jermyn Street and Savile Row. He still looks good at 82.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
