Hi there, I am back in HK for business for 5 days next week. last time i was there, I picked up a book with places to get various things tailored. In the shoe section, they recommended the places i've listed below.

Does anyone have any experience having shoes tailored in HK? Do you know of any of the below tailors, or can you recommend others? The speak of getting the shoes made is important, but i'd be willing to pick them up on my next trip..

Thanks,

Coogie

No direct experience, but I've gone to Mayer before and the owner is a great guy. I haven't had anything made, but I have a friend whose a satisfied client. I suspect the shoes are not goodyear welted, though. If you're into it, they almost always have a good stock of exotic leathers you can have done.

I have shoes made by Mayers and Kow Hoo.
If speed is important, forget kow hoo, they need at lease six months to make.
Shoe shops on Wong nai chung Rd don't do maen shoes, I think.
Mayer shoes is good at that price, IMHO.
I don't like Lii shoes when I saw them at the show windows. However, I don't have any experience with them.
J Nina in Admiralty Centre? I don't have any idea where is this shop, is that the shop oppsite Lii Lii? I think they are run by same people. Otherewise, they are doing ladies shoes.

Thanks for the info.

I'll have a look around. A 2-3k pair of shoes will be great, so i'll check out mayer first. I'm not well educated on shoes, so i'm going to need some serious advice from them!

Thanks again

coogie,

I think it would be better if you know just what design shoe you want. They do have several pictures and magazines you can scan, though.

Ah, Kow Hoo brings back the memories. Got several pair, including one in cordovan, in about 1965! Great shoes; maybe $25U.S. a pair; hand-made maybe and built on an individualized last. Took maybe a week. Back in the China Fleet Club days. Suspect those days are long gone, but still have one pair left and going strong.

Hello coogie

Did you end up buying some shoes in HK? I am in a similar situation to what you were.

Many thanks,

Litho
