Hi, does anybody have experience with their bespoke shoes? I understand that their RTW line might be a bit fashion forward - some would say 'ugly' but looking at their website I do like some of shapes of the RTW shoes but not their aggressive use of patina, choice of colors or the cursive writing (not sure what that is all about). Long story short, I think I would like some of their shoes if I could pick more conservative colors.

Do you actually mean MTO?
No, I mean bespoke because MTO only has a few potential styles I like... but any experience is interesting. Apparently, Berluti has a long history of bespoke also having their store next to Cifonelli should mean something (actually not sure if this has any significance but sounds cool).

I've no experience, but if I was going to spend the sort of money they'd be asking I'd go elsewhere. I've no experience with Berluti MTO/ bespoke to speak of, I had one pair of RTW for a while. A fairly unobtrusive chisel toe brogued single monk. I'd go for a pair of Meccariello's - Antonio will work with you to design what you want. He created the Tacticus and Catalines (whatever they're called) with me.

Very interesting did not know about Meccariello shoes but from a brief look at it I prefer JL, GC or GG. However, depending on price I might be interested in Meccariello. What’s the average price for the 1st pair ? Thanks for the suggestion.

Well the Tacticus is based on the JL 2009 (I think that's the year) and IMV is a much better shoe. So you can get basically what you want as long as you know what you want. I don't know current prices, it was a while ago that I had mine done.

I have no personnal experience with Berluti but their bespoke workshop is run by Anthony Delos who is one of the most respected shoemaker in France, so I'd be 100% confident to use their service if I had the kind of budget to go for it.

I have no experience but I would imagine you could pick any of Berluti’s styles for made to order. Also they are famously expensive. I’ve read made to order is around €5000 so I would imagine bespoke is at least double that.

I think Patrice Rock is in charge. Anthony Delos was a recent addition while Patrice and Jean-Michel were there before Delos. From what I was told by the NYC boutique, Jean-Michel does most of the traveling trunk shows and fittings. I'm not sure how it would work if you do your initial measurements in Paris though because you could probably request Anthony to do the measuring but he may not be doing the subsequent fittings.

Regardless of who you get, Anthony, Patrice, and Jean-Michel are all considered master bootmakers in France. Someone told me once that there were only 9 in total in France (not sure how true that is) and that Berluti employed 3 of them.

Very interesting, thanks. According to the boutique in Las Vegas, I would have to fly out there (or LA) so that I then get my measurements. Given that I live in the Bay Area and would need to go out there multiple times this seems pretty ridiculous. JL would offered me to specifically come out to SF just for me. below prices according to Berluti if anybody is curious:
For bespoke shoes, the price is around $7800 to $8200 for one pair. A Bespoke specialist will fly from Pairs twice to measure your foot for making the shoes. But, for special order Cursive Galet Scritto Calf Leather Loafer without the cursive, the price is around $2400-$3200.

I think JL prices are about the same as Berluti give or take a couple $100.

Also keep in mind that JL and Berluti have fairly different styles. If you want something more flashy, then you'll need to do Berluti. JL is fairly understated and more traditional. JL also doesn't do patinas.

Yes, honestly leaning towards JL. Even though I have seen a few beautiful Berluti bespoke online that are less flashy... Frankly, I will first try GG MTO (or even do bespoke GG) when they come to the Bay in October, if I like the shoes and they fit me well I stick with them. Paying 4x times GG MTO for JL and Berluti bespoke is not worth it for me, however, the experience would sure be great.

I did JL bespoke recently and wrote about it in the JL thread. PM me if you have any specific questions.

Anthony Delos visited Hong Kong, China on 25-26 March 2023

My friend placed a new order and got measured

Mr Delos said the last would also be made by him
