I am new to the concept of waxed cotton jackets, and i like the Barbour Ashby because of the way it looks. I tried the medium size and it fits me very well but leaves little room for anything beyond a wool sweater or a shirt. The Large is wider and can fit a lot more layers including Barbour's liners but won't be the perfect fit like a medium, if i am only wearing a shirt under it.
I've seen photos online of people wearing those over shirts, and others layered over suits, so i am curious what's the proper use of these jackets within the context of living in a city?
Should this be used as a fall rain jacket? or should i aim for it to be much more, like a winter outer layer, that should have enough room for a lot of layers underneath it for warmth? (I live in NYC).
Thanks!
