Anyway my point I think was that even people who say formal don't know what they mean. At least you have an indication you can comfortably wear a suit to the wedding. And a suit means a tie. A wedding is a joyous celebration of love. Or something. Anyway it's not a funeral or a business meeting so a white shirt, sombre tie and sombre shoes isn't needed. Actually some upper middle class weddings are more like business contracts but we'll ignore that here. So a nice dressy non white shirt, say pale blue, pink or ecru, spread collar and a bright happy tie. No, no, no. Not a fun tie like PoP. But a more showy tie.
Good occasion to wear cufflinks and double cuffs. Pocket hankie. Easy.
