Has anyone read "The Five People You Meet in Heaven"? I just spent a seedy Sunday reading and now I feel overly emotional. Ripper book.

I'm tempted just to see if it's real, or a front for who knows what...

Apparently not a front. Seen in an op shop yesterday.

Bit of an update on the shoes and the suit post recommendations.

I withdraw my concerns about Roger's Shoe Repairs in Redfern. The boots have held up just fine, the new sole is comfortable. A fair amount of use has blended the less good looking bits, a brush and polish has taken out or coloured the white bits on the stitch, and the middle of the boot is slowly accumulating layers of coloured wax as per my habit, which is hiding its own imperfections (due to the history of the boot rather than any work done to it).

Thanks for the GlenKaren recommendation. Is it better than Saphir MO, who knows; it certainly smells better and is at least as good. The cleaner/conditioner was particularly impressive in restoring multiple pairs of boots I thought long dead to near-new looks, so much so that I wonder whether a good strategy may not be to just use that and forget about cream and shine. It really gives a more profound shine if done well, and the leather became supple and rather comfortable without any darkening of creases (as can happen with mink oil). I am just a bit surprised that @glenjay on the GK thread says the brand has changed names to Pure Polish yet it continues to be sold here as GK. Worth the premium, anyway.

My suits have returned from M&R Tailoring (Maher Haddad) and they have been adequately altered, although when I phoned him on the morning of the pickup he was still working on one of them. Can't complain, it gave me a chance for a stroll on a beautiful winter day, or is it spring now.

I've also (re-)learned that you cannot trust Google Maps for realistic ETAs in Sydney, at least in conservative business dress. It is still useful for train platforms.

I use TripView for Sydney trains. Works a treat. Sydney traffic ain't so bad so long as you don't drive during peak hour with the flow of traffic (sounds obvious) and avoid Parramatta road for months to come due to stingey road users not using the M4.
