I have an old MJ Bale jacket that I want to get the sleeves shortened, unfortunately I will need to get it taken up at the shoulders due to the working buttons on the cuffs. Does anyone know of an alterations place in Melbourne (or surrounding suburbs) that can do this well? And if so, how much would they charge?

There's a tailor in Melbourne Joshua Ton. A quick google search will find him for you :)

Can confirm that Trimly are the way to go, especially since they do the package deals for sets of 5 or 10. Great if you have a large collection, or a mate that you're willing to split with if they wear the same size shoe.

Hi again gents,

I've asked before, forgive me for trying again:

Can anyone recommend a tailor in Naples? I'll be visiting soon, and I'd like to get a jacket/suit made.

Cheers.

Back again.
My mate asked for a recommendation for a tailor in the Western suburbs of Melbourne - anywhere from Footscray to Werribee. I'm not super familiar with that side of town, anyone here have any recommendations?

I always used to use Mila at Magic Alterations. Apparently she is still in the business but works from home. If you search her name in this thread, I think there's a phone number somewhere. Her prices were obscenely reasonable back when she was renting conservative business dress commercial space, I imagine they are the same or better now...

Hi all, I've recently relocated to Melbourne from Sydney for work (happy with the city upgrade). Need to get up to speed with a few things here, but glad to see there are a number of members based in the most Livable City.

- Barber (conservative business dress) - any recommendations? Personal decision I know, but I also don't want to walk into some of the franchise spots and overpay for a fade/something I don't want.
- Shoe repair (conservative business dress or east) - my rotation in need of some maintenance capex, especially given a relocation and a few were resting in shipment while others overworked.

Generally - any good sock recommendations people have had good experiences with? I've used viccel historically but received the email / redirection to 'celchuk'. I liked the consistency of viccel and the OTC style.

Will endeavour to contribute more, but don't feel it's my place to provide advice in many instances.

Celchuk is Viccel. They just changed their name. Can confirm their quality is still good but with Viccel/Celchuk I always found their plain socks wears out faster than their patterned ones.

Not sure where you're based. Rekaris generally was the go to for shoe repair, he was in the city but is now in Coburg on Bell St (conveniently near me), he's great.

For barbers, I see one out near me now, but Kings Domain and Rocket in the conservative business dress were the go to.

Welcome!

Any conservative business dress barber will be too expensive, although the same is probably true in the inner suburbs as well. I used to go to Pickings and Parry when I lived on the Northside - a combination of barbershop and traditional workwear purveyor, and lovely people all.

You can pick up a Barbour while you're there, and a few of the better shops are in the neighbourhood: Modern Classic, Standard Store, and Urahara and Urban Lupe if you like denim. Gertrude Street Enoteca is sadly no longer with us, but there's some good Japanese food and various other things in the neighbourhood. It's a nice afternoon out.

For shoes, Evans Leather in town are very good, but increasingly overpriced. Manfred's Shoe Lounge in North Melbourne is decent too and considerably cheaper. It's not east, but it's not far west...
