Are notch lapel double breasted suits coming into style? I've been seeing them more and more often and in ads from Emporio Armani lately. I ask because I have an old English bespoke one I thrifted some months ago and haven't yet worn it due to fearing it would look absurd and horribly outdated.

Thanks

Notch lapel double breasted suits are never a good idea. In style or out of style, they look lacking unless the button stance is high enough to make peak lapels not an option. In which case they also look ridiculous if the button stance is too wide. If your old English bespoke one has an extra high closure, it's possible that you might be able to wear it, but the chances of it looking good are very slim. Notch lapel double breasted with low, wide button stance is one of the signature bad ideas from the 1980s. Whether it's wearable or not, notch lapel double breasted is not a good idea for serious meetings.

Does all Burberry clothing have the Burberry check?

I have a Burberrys coat, which I believe to be quite old. As it is labelled 'Burberrys' will post pictures.

But my friend who likes to think he is an expert says its a fake because it doesn't have the Burberry check.

Also, does anyone know what this is worth?

Stinking fake. It's "Burberry", not "Burberrys".

Although your friend is an idiot, of course not all their designs are covered in their signature checks. Though they do tend to hide a little in their plainer items too e.g. under the collar or in the lining.

What? That's comically wrong. Plenty of Burberry stuff has a "Burberrys" logo. Just means it's older, though the change where they dropped the s is still pretty recent. The vast, vast majority of vintage Burberry stuff out there is going to be labeled "Burberrys".

And yes, his friend is an idiot. Not everything is going to have the check, and the check is very common on fake stuff anyway. And no fake is going to have those coded order tags. Hell, if you contact Burberry, they may even be able to look it up and tell you when it was made.

^I'd put money on that being genuine. Stuff like that turns up in charity and vintage shops all the time, and I think it's only relatively recently that they dropped the 's' from the brand name.

And if you look closely, you can see 'Prorsum' on the knight's flag, which of course they still use.

Funny you mentioned the "Stuff like that turns up in charity and vintage shops all the time".

This coat actually came from my former employer, who lives abroad but comes to London 1-2 months a year. He stops in a few European countries on his way here (London - he owned a place here too). He decided last year he's going to move back to his home country and wont be coming back to London. So he told both me and my partner to get rid of all his clothes or just send it all to a charity shop. We only knew of the typical brands like Gucci and Christian Dior and Burberry. So we kept some of the clothes, not knowing why. well anyway lets just say a charity shop at 1 point was full of Bijan Stefano Ricci and Hermes items. Why didn't we take it? because we had no clue about these names till I decided to get rid of the stuff to make space.

Why he decided to just throw it all out? majority of the stuff we threw out looked very old. Guessing he kept his recent purchases.

Anyway just little story for you guys. Thanks for the info too.

I bought a 38L Suit Supply Sienna and 38L Suit Supply Napoli Faux Uni. On both of them the trousers are insanely tight. My usual size is 34 x 32. These are listed as 33, but I figured there was room to let out. I can't button up either pair of trousers, but aside from that the taper is so slim that I look like I'm wearing skinny jeans or tights.

Has anyone ever had this issue with Suit Supply? Do they let customers keep jackets but exchange trousers for a different size? I'm going to call them later today but I was wondering what experiences SF members have had.

I have a Napoli and didn't have this issue and my pants are not that slim to me. They have slimmer cuts than this. My drop is 42 to 34 though. I think your chest size is cut for little guys for any suit supply suit. You sound relatively tall for a 38. If you have bigger legs than upper body these suits might not be for you.

Is there anything practical in wearing lightly colored ties like this?

There's nothing good about those ties -- lightly colored satin bowties are only justifiable if you're trying to match your date for the junior prom.

But light ties are just fine, as long as they're darker than the shirt. They should really be worn with a darker coat, too: trying to do a light tie, light shirt, and light coat is rather tough.

That's actually polyester with a "silk" pretense.. Haha.

See, all of my ties are polyester because I have silk pocket squares.. It's difficult to find legit linen ties online (and I have limited funds, so I can't go to the haberdasheries). A polyester tie and a silk pocket square are antithetical fabrics that can otherwise work, yes?

Of course, a darker coat balances the colors out.

You have to be kidding.

Wise men can differ on the idea of wearing a silk hank and a silk tie. The argument against it is that a texture contrast is nice. Poly ties are, nearly without an exception, cheap, inferior imitations of silk ties

You have taken a minor point (texture contrast being a nice thing to have) and reduced it to absurdity: the point is moot if the ties are bad (doubly so if the ties imitate silk). The most elegant dressers often wear ties in a different material to their hanks, but not a single one of them wears a lot of poly ties. I've never seen a poly tie I particularly liked, and I have known them to age poorly.

I have no objection to wearing a silk hank with a silk tie, for what it's worth.
