Both are the same thing and yes, it is an odd jacket.
The distinction you're looking for is odd/suit jacket vs sport coat.
Hahaha. I guess Gant retains some level of trad/preppy heritage. I feel you in that regard. It seems like the models these days are getting more and more ridiculous.
I see you guys are all saying it's a fashion "don't" to wear a suit with gold buttons, but why is it bad exactly? What is the origin of the navy jacket with gold buttons style that makes it regarded most of the time as a stand alone piece anyway?
The difference between a odd/suit jacket vs a sport coat is: fabric, color, and pattern?
It's a don't because with brass buttons, it becomes a blazer, a distinct and iconic garment with its own interesting history. Simply, the reason is that blazers have never been worn as suits, and are an iconic look in themselves.
If you want a navy suit, wear a navy suit. Just skip the gold buttons.
Two people have been telling you the reasons since early this morning.. Third time's the charm?^That's what I was looking for. Thanks for the info.
An odd jacket is a suit jacket without trousers. It is sometimes called an orphaned suit coat. The odd jacket is the origin of the sport coat.
Some orphans work better than others. Finer weaves, pinstripes, finer patterns, less contrasting buttons...more orphanish. Coarser fabrics, brighter colors, more vibrant patterns, contrasting buttons...these work better when using as a sport coat / odd jacket function. There is considerable overlap in the fabrics / patterns used on suits and sport coats. I have seen suits made of fabrics which would be great for use in a sport coat and I have seen sport coats and blazers made of fabrics which would make nice suits.
There is no particular difference in the construction of a suit jacket vs. a sport coat or blazer.

Maybe he was asking if it was an orphaned suit jacket vs an odd jacket aka a jacket meant to be worn with non matching pants. Looks like an orphaned suit jacket to me. I would avoid it unless you can find the pants.
The line of this cast I love it. Does anyone know if any company produces similar?
They're all insane. The first one is most wearable - big statement, but way cool for a summer evening event I'd say. I like the last one, too, more of a smoking jacket but really fun if you're feeling bold, maybe for a more "gentlemen's club" kind of scenario, but what the heck! It's an extraordinary thing. Number two is just a bit ugly - teddy boy special.
Kira, where are you finding all of these crazy things? Do you live near a vintage double-breasted coat conservation habitat?
