Haha yeah. An uncle has a patek and a few rolexs and other stuff. I just couldn't even process.

I'm in no rush. I like nice things, but I like buying used too. I'm only 24 so have a long time left to acquire things. To be honest, the panerai dial with the encasing isn't my favorite. I do love vintage omega's though. They're not super pricey either (relatively speaking) though I'm sure most require some amount of work.

Start somewhere and progress - just like in anything -lots of good pre-owned watches around.

More accurately it'd be, "When in Firenze..." :nodding:

I was looking at them.

My hamilton is a graduation gifts from my folks. I was looking at vintage omega's at that time as well, but they were more expensive and I didn't want to have to spend a few hundred dollars to get them fixed if something was off.

Glad to hear yours was awesome. Maybe I'll save for one of those for a next watch instead of buying something like the orient that doesn't have the same personality to it.

Sorry. I was thinking about 'loud' divers like my orange monster. I think that most people don't think they are dressy because they have HUGE faces and are not understated.

You're probably right, but I think the diver wouldn't quite work in more conservative places because it's too loud in size.

I wear an orange monster to work most days and also have a hamilton khaki automatic for the days when I'm more dressed up. I like the SOM because it's loud and that fits what I wear much better. However, I'm going to (hopefully) have a lot of interviews next year and I'm thinking of picking up something like this to wear with a suit:

Believe me I know all about big orange divers. I have an Orange Samurai myself in titanium. I don't feel comfortable wearing that one to work, but I do have a Seamaster GMT also that I do feel comfortable wearing to work.

I also have a vintage (60s) Omega that I bought that seems to be in good working order, but the Omega technician at the boutique on 5th avenue said was not in working order. Keeps good time to me, just ticks a little loud, so I won't get serviced until it stops working. Vintage Omegas are usually great buys.

There's been a flurry of modern takes on vintage pieces from many manufacturers. E.g.,

Is there a good way to clean a stain off tweed? Tiny mud spot on my pants that's pissing me off mightily.

Damp washcloth?

I can wear one to work because I'm just a researcher. I dress about 2-3x better than necessary for my job. Seriously, I could wear a polo and khaki's to work every day.

I do love those omega's though.

Not a huge fan of that shape on the watch face tbh. Square sometimes works for me, but I much prefer round watch faces.

Dark coloured trousers (dare I say black jeans) and a white shirt.

Don't vigorously follow the people on here who say dark coloured trousers are wrong - they're not.

Oh no worries. I wear black pants all the time!

I was thinking either red, navy, or salmon as well as black. Would cords be overkill? I have a pair of black and a pair of blue cords as well.

Cords might be too many things happening, but maybe not; try it on and look in the mirror. Black pants will look good, so will dark blue. I've got a pair of really dark blue jeans, and I would wear the hell out of that jacket with them. Grey pants are pretty much never wrong with anything.
