Is it considered tacky to mount a painting on a wooden frame with glass? If so, what type of artwork would look good with a wooden frame and glass?

I have this wooden frame that I used to put my diploma in. It's a nice frame and am wondering what type of artwork I should put in it (print, oil painting, watercolor, etc...).

Any suggestions? Also, any ideas where to purchase artwork online? I'm looking for something of a specific size and don't really want to spend that much (under $100).

Thanks

Paintings can work behind glass, but need to be on small /shallow canvases.
Works of value, paint surface should not touch glass-well shouldn't ever touch really.
Save the money. buy better work or good quality prints of limited edition.
Start off right and you will have spent your money more wisely.

Auction /benefit might get you a cool original for a good price.

Personally I don't like glass over artwork. A cool piece of art with a minimalist frame is the way to go if you ask me.

There are lot of places to get cool art for under $100 online - many direct from the artist. What kind of stuff do you like? I can probably suggest some.

The only appropriate artworks to go under glass are drawings so as to avoid oxidation and humidity damage on the paper.

Any print will look fine under glass. There are lots of amazing ones on etsy.com direct from the artists so the prints will usually be #/100 or something. It's a great site in general for all sorts of one of a kind gifts. You can really spend hours and hours going through the listings. I'd give you a list of my fave sellers but lost it so happy hunting! Oh, but here's one I do remember to get you started: MatteArt From there, you can check out his favourite sellers to skip through a ton of junk.
