After graduating at teh beginning of COVID my son finally got full time job in his field but in another city. I gave him a bottle of Macallan 12 so his first drink in his first bachelor's pad would be a proper drink. He later told me "That stuff was STRONG! I tried to drink it neat with a water back but I still needed a couple of ice cubes. Right now the bottle is locked away in a cabinet so it won't stalk me"

I howled with laughter

Isn’t it interesting the thing we become accustomed to. I remember the almost exact experience when I drank my first scotch as a young man. Swore the stuff off, now I drink the swill, straight no chaser, none stop 😅

So I was browsing at a local shop today and just happened to stumble upon some Arran 18. Its the first time I've ever seen a 750ml US bottle. It was a little pricey, but I for sure snapped it up because I was dumb and didn't save a bottle the last time I ordered from overseas and it hasn't been in stock anywhere since.
Edit: sorry - the new packaging Arran 18

Clarified octopus milk are probably three words you never thought you’d read on a cocktail menu, but Smithfields’ Oriole has totally gone there.

It’s made by gently simmering actual octopus in milk to draw out the flavour, and then clarifying the liquid so it loses its milky colour.

Really enjoying this one. I find the 12 year a bit too thin at 40% ABV and lacking coherence between the peat and other flavors. The extra 3 years, 3% ABV, and Sherry finish really bring it all together

Not scotch but the first liquor i bought with a fake ID was a bottle of Evan Williams because I read online that it was a better value than Jack Daniels. Ended up making whisky sours with the entire bottle just because I couldn't stand it. Granted I'm still not much of a Bourbon person but I gladly knock back scotch neat these days.

ugh.. the only thing that shite is good for is getting one drunk. It was our go to liquor when I was broke and in the military, it came in a gallon bottle and cost almost nothing 🫠
