any ideas about finding an androgynous teal suit that fits a small woman?

Here are the factors at play:

—I’m a cis woman, 5’5”, chest 33”, waist 30”, shoulders 16.5”. I’m built like a skinny teen boy with slightly wider hips

—Was aiming for $500 max budget, but now maybe stretching up to $700.

—Mens’ suits I tried on were too long everywhere, even when they fit in the shoulders. I know I’ll get it tailored, but I don’t think the jacket length can be shortened a lot without messing with proportions/pockets.

—I haven’t had luck finding the color/fabric/style I want in women’s suits. I want it to be more masculine/androgynous, and women’s suits haven’t fit my body well either.

—Slim fit or some regular teen boy suits fit the best by far. They’d be perfect, with just a little tailoring. But they are only available in limited colors and fabrics. I have my heart set on teal and natural fibers. Does anyone know if this exists?

Looking for recommendations for short men, I see some specific brands that carry shorter sizes (but I couldn't find anything with the color/fabric I wanted) and recommendations for MTM.

Looking at recommendations for suits in general, I see general agreement that MTM suits under $700 are terrible terrible, except for when they turn out ok.

I’d really like a three-piece teal suit in a natural fibers fabric that fits my body. Does anyone have any ideas? I’ve done lots of google searching, reddit reading, eBay scouring already trying to find options. I need someone else’s opinion! What are my best options, given my size and my budget? It seems that all the sub-$700 MTM options are a gamble, but are any better than others?

Here are some I’ve found that I like:

I like how deep the color is on this one. I like that I could customize to get less padded shoulders and other details, but I know they have a bad reputation

the smallest size might fit close enough to get it tailored, and I know the company is more reputable. It's my least favorite of the color options (I want more teal than green). The pants (size 28) that would come with my size jacket (34S) would be too small by a couple of inches at my hips, so I might have to buy a full suit plus an extra pair of pants that could be alterable to work.

I like the look of this one best, but I can’t find any reviews that seem trustworthy.

I like this one too, but again, online reviews are rough.

Thoughts? Advice? Links to suit recommendations?
Thank you!

welcome!

If I were in your shoes, with your budget I'd look into a custom suit at Spier & Mackay. Their jackets go down to 32Short and you can then pair with the correctly sized trousers. I haven't done anything custom with them before, but my understanding is that they might be able to source fabrics that are not listed on their website. I'd definitely try contacting them. It'll be near the top of your budget (unfortunately more if you order a waistcoat) but I have way more confidence in them than I do with Indochino.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
