That looks like that combed or brushed leather use on the Gladstone bags in the 1930-40s

Hi @T4phage

Thanks for sharing, the leather looks very interesting.
Can I check if Antonio imposes an upcharge on the willow calf?

there was
no upcharge

Very cool! What other colors were available?

he said he had
a few
plus he could
re-colour a
very light beige
to most any
shade

That looks like that combedor brushed leather use on the Gladstone bags in the 1930-40s

those bags
were made of
willow grain calf

Is it full grain?

yes
but as @DWFII says
any leather that
has an artificial pattern
stamped on it
is by definition
'corrected' grain

Can any of my Italian friends help me out? I am trying to explain to Antonio that I want a little more toe spring in my Aurum pair he is making for me; does anyone know how to translate this concept into Italian? Thanks much in advance.

I'd show him the article toe spring article from shoesnobblog yesterday and then draw him a picture :)

Actually I'm a little surprised Antonio doesn't understand it the way you're telling him.
Based on my email correspondences with him, he's very articulate and competent in English, even pertaining to more technical shoemaking terms.

Update: Antonio emailed me back; he said in Italian toe spring is called "Camminata"

Time for some shoe Appreciation.
My Aurum saddle shoes are done and on their way.
The blue chukkas are test chukkas for what will be Argentum chukkas in willow calf.
