Thanks guys.
Looks like M9 has the most votes thus far.
I like that one too.

@NJE66 have you come closer to a decision on whether you would prefer contrast or without? As the other guys apart from @boot_owl haven't given a strong preference..... The final make up might come down to you.

No pressure though... Haha

Just for your reference, this is what it looks like without.

I prefer the pin grain contrast, but not a deal breaker either way.

M9 is good for me as is M6 and/or 3. I would prefer no contrast facing as I have indicated to Thundermarch previously in private.

By the way I had a look at the other Castagna del prete options on AM’s webshop and realised that the actual colour may be lighter than on the pair of principes that was posted earlier in this thread:

Is there any chance we can go for darker browns such as caffe tostato

1201089

or dark oak?

Thanks again TM for organising!

Gosh...

I must say without contrast. Regardless if in a suit or sport jacket with odd trousers I believe pin grain in this oxford model would be a bit boldly for me personally. Already kind of stocked up with beautiful shoes not seing a lot of, if any, daylight and are for the moment aiming for more versatile make ups.

I apologize for any inconvenience guys.

And @ThunderMarch, as always, really appreciate your hard work.

Regards

Thunder might have a picture of a previous GMTO that had the pingrain contrast. I didn't pull the trigger on that GMTO because I had the exact same thought as you, too loud. However, the finished product look fantastic and not ostentatious.

No problem guys.

I've read through your inputs and thoughts.

I think that as a group, we are most polarised in terms of whether we should go for contrast facing and heel counters, or not.

Personally, and not just in the interest of wanting the GMTO to happen (God knows I already have far too many shoes), I think the make up would work either way. Honest truth.

The pin grain itself is something that has a really subtle texture, especially from a distance, so it's not immediately apparent. It doesn't really add much in terms of "loudness" (if that's the worry). However, it does make things a little more interesting when you look at it close up.

Here is a link to some pictures, which I feel best represent the overall "look".

That being said, this make up is slightly different because the facing and heel counters are peaked. So it's already rather unique in that sense. So for the sake of not making things too busy, and if you were to put me on a spot, I would say no contrast. But of course, it's not a big deal to me.

With regards to colour, I have never handled a pair in Castagna Del Prete, so I'm not totally sure how dark it is. But I'll say this, Caffè Tostato is a really gorgeous shade of dark brown. Dark oak is really really dark, it's safe and still quite nice, but indoors it looks near black. So I think most folks would find Tostato preferable.

Below are my preferences on the three items on which there seems to be no consensus yet.

Contrast: I’d definitely prefer with the pin grain contrast if the shoes came in a lighter shade of brown. But, not having it would not be a deal breaker if the shoes came in a very dark shade of brown.

Medallion: M9 is not my preferred medaillion, but as stated earlier, it would work fine for me.

Color: The darker the shade of brown the better for me.

Based on @Service_out and @ThunderMarch input regarding the shades of the 3 browns under consideration, I’d prefer (in that order - the darkest shade first):

1. Dark Oak
2. Caffe Tostato (as a side note, the nuvolato effect looks nice on that color)

Castagna del prete seems to be ruled out for me: After looking at more pictures of it (thanks for the remark @Service_out ), it seems to be much lighter than the other two browns.

If other browns came under consideration, french box calf dark brown, french box calf espresso, french box calf espresso secondo, vintage classic brown annonay and antiqued caffe would likely also work for me.

Many thanks for organizing this @ThunderMarch !

Medallion: not too fussed with any of the choices

Colour: dark oak > caffe tostato > castagna del prete but no deal breakers. Open to other dark brown suggestions too.

I'm surprised how many people are put off by castagna del prete. There seems to be an option for dark tone castagna del prete as seen in these photos

I would strongly prefer caffe tostato or castagna del prete( dark tone or not). Dark oak is too dark for me. The photos on Meccariello are all under strong lighting. Under indoor light, castagna del prete and caffe tostato isn't light and flashy

contrast: unfortunately, no contrast would be a deal breaker for me. Honestly I see that “interesting” but not “loud”. Although I believe the shoes would be very nice and enjoyable in either way.

colour: any dark shade of brown would work for me.

thank you guys for the inputs!
