Interesting. I thought the Hinsdale was a SWB on the 108 last (I hope they bring this back in snuff suede or walnut calf). Of course this wouldn't be the first time AE recycles a name and uses it in a completely different shoe.

How many different Lexingtons, Jeffersons, and MacNeils have there been? Lol

You are correct. It is now a SWB. It used to be a high vamp penny loafer. Go figure.

Can you (or anyone) link me to instructions for how to refinish shell?

For Ebay purchases with lots of polish, I've had good results with a rag and hot water. Sometimes, I add a bit of soap, although the water and elbow grease work well. It may take 2 or 3 sessions if the polish is really caked on. For the tough stuff, Saphir Renomat works well, but probably not necessary.

Finally, use the wet brushing method and you should get a beautiful glow from your shell.

It takes a little effort but the results are impressive.

Selection at BCF elevates significantly as you get to their top tier stores, the issue that like most retailers their top tier stores are likely in major metropolitan areas or locations with higher income.

If you don't see AE's your local store, try to stop by a better location on your next trip to a major city. For <$150 you're getting one hell of a deal on AE's.

Problem is, im in the largest metro area within five hours.

MEGA PSA. Wow, this is interesting...

At least 18 pairs of Westchesters in Burgundy Cordovan are now on the shoebank for $297! Yes, shell for $297. Considering the size of the dump, I'm going to guess these may be first-quality shoes getting reclassified and dumped onto the shoebank. Nothing in my size, sadly, but plenty for rest of you.

Also a Dundee in 8.5 E in Truffle shell... I think this might have been up before?

In calf, we also mark the return of the Hanover wholecut in 6 3E, 8.5 D, and 11.5 B. I've been wanting a wholecut for a while, but also not in my size.

Wow! Big difference between the two products. Renovateur is a conditioner with some polishing agents in it. Great for your smooth leather shoes. Smells good too.

Renomat is a mild stripping agent used to remove polish build up. You probably don't need it. I used it on a few Ebay purchases, but not on new shoes.

Other conditioners are Bick 4, which doesn't really polish.

Another great product is Venetian Shoe Cream which is a conditioner with polishing agents.

AE makes nice conditioners as well. Their Premium product (new) is nice. Conditions and shines.

You can't go wrong with any (or, like me, ALL) of these products. Good luck.

Thanks for deciphering for me...reread the descriptives and it makes more sense...

@Neo1 - pics to follow, keep Moras and PAs at work - never seen the sunlight yet

Yes, Westchester Shell, was eyeing these for my 1st Shell purchase, need a slip on anyway...

Any suggestions on sizing / fit?...my 8.5 D PAs are a little snug at the pinky, 8.5 D Mora slightly less so (noticeable only after several hours on my feet), Daltons 8.5 D are perfect, and 8.5 E Strandmoks are good erring on the loose side at the bal

(Definitely don't want my bals loose at my feet

It's odd that you'd find the Mora slightly wider, as it's on AE's narrowest last, but it's not surprising you find the Daltons wider (the 511 has a full toebox)... Given this is a loafer, I'd personally error on going with an 8.5 D for the Westchester, but you could also order the 9D if you can float two orders pending a return.

I have never had a loafer in the past and I am not sure how they are supposed to fit. My two shoes on the 7 last are 8.5B Sanford and 8D BB MacNeil with poron insole and padding. Sanfords fit pretty well, while the latter are little loose and require thicker socks. Since they only come in D width, should I order 7.5 and 8? However, I do think 7.5 might be short.

Edit: the post is related to shell Westchesters.
