I'm wanting to get some plain brooks brothers dress shirts and they come in two types of collars on their website:

1) Forward Point Collar
2) Ainsley Collar

I was told the Forward Point is more formal.

How do I decide which to go with? I wear a dress shirt to work and in the winter I typically have a V-neck sweater over the shirt. I wear the same collared shirts to the bar.

I disagree that the forward point is more formal than the Ainsley. I would suggest that the formality is equal, although others may assert it is the Ainsley which is more formal.

The choice may depend upon how you think each looks on you. Some look better with an Ainsley and some may look better with a forward point.

The other consideration is whether you wear a tie to work and the bar and which collar looks better with and without a tie. I personally do not like the look of forward point or Ainsley collar without a tie. I prefer the look of a buttondown collar in instances in which I do not wear a tie.
