A green belt?

I have been speaking with a retailer who makes MTO croc belts and am considering a deep green. I agree, that aside from brown or tan it is the one expressive color to wear year round and is fairly flexible. I'm considering a buckle made from double "O" rings.

Alan Flusser used to have quite a display of croc double "O" ring belts in his custom shop 7+ years ago. He did made MTO in blue, orange, green, red, cognac and brown croc. I have to say the orange was fun but aside from a sunny resort setting I doubt I would get much use out of it. I kept thinking about these and then settled on green before he closed his shop a while back. I think I will move ahead with it now. But, the retailer isn't Hermes. I'm a small timer.

I've been looking at Equus' website and rather fancy their West End belt in racing green. Of course I don't own any green shoes tough. So I suppose my question is this: can one wear a green bridle leather belt in the same way that one wears a ribbon belt, ie as a freestanding bit of colour rather than as something that shouldn't be too distant from the colour of one's shoes?

I'm not looking for "wear it if you like it" answers, but for arguments of sorts. My argument would be that since green isn't really a traditional colour for shoes then a green belt is obviously not intended as a matchable item. Unless we hold that leather belts should always match, in which case no green belt for me. Opinions?

I have to say- that belt you had made up by Equus is wonderful- as are all of the British Racing Green belts I've seen made up by Equus. Here is Equus' Lined and Raised in British Racing Green. So the rule that belt colours should match shoe colours are more honoured in the breach than in the observance?

I don't have green shoes myself, and have been thinking about how to match this so the colours are not too discordant -- maybe with watch strap like on my watch below, or bag.

I had to get this suede Edward Green belt because I had credit and there was nothing in that amount I could use it for without having to top up significantly.

That's not really the rule. If you are wearing Black shoes you should wear a matching belt, but otherwise things are a bit more flexible.

You can wear a black belt with almost any colour of shoes, and you can wear brown shoes with almost any colour of belt (providing they are harmonious with the rest of your outfit, obviously).

There was a 'rule' about general family of colours (though only the obsessive would care about the shade), but I reckon most probably don't keep to such 'rules' if the whole outfit is harmonious enough. Good thing I wear braces or go belt-less (held up by side adjustors) most of the time.
