I saw a used Saint Laurent Teddy jacket from 2014 claiming to be virgin wool on the RealReal for a steal of a price on the RealReal for $450. From the pictures, it looked to be the trademark heavy wool version that the Teddy is know for. The listing was discounted from $850. I figured it was on sale because it’s the middle of the summer and it’s cheaper to buy clothes out of season as well as the item being secondhand with slight signs of wear like the inside neckchain being popped.
I’ve had mixed experiences with the RealReal. I bought some unworn 2014 30th anniversary rerelease 1984 Gucci sneakers last year for a steal of $350 discounted because minor leather imperfections and they are stellar quality, no issues. But I bought some new version Prada America Cups from them that were questionable in authenticity because the reps for Prada America Cups have become almost indistinguishable as well as the quality of authentic designer sneakers at retail has gone to the toilet for many designer luxury brands in recent years because they’ve realized more people are paying for the name of luxury fashion more than ever.
When the Teddy jacket came in the mail today, I was extremely disappointed. I knew something was wrong with how light the package was. The jacket itself doesn’t seem to be wool at all to my untrained eyes. It looks like a cheap canvas material. And the jacket is very lightweight. If it is authentic, it might be a spring weight jacket? But something seems really off here. In the pictures it look to be heavyweight wool. The jacket is marked as a size 52, but feels much smaller. It barely fits me at 6’ with a slim build. I’ve seen some versions of the Teddy online that seem to be this lightweight version, but often sold by questionable online retailers.
Anybody a Teddy expert who can confirm the authenticity of this piece? Just my luck the RealReal said it’s no returns on this specific item. I hate it and will sell it if it turns out to be an authentic lightweight spring piece.
