Explorations of Questionable Taste: The Pink Sportcoat Thread

Perhaps a cry for help? What does the guy who needs nothing thinks he needs: A dusty rose or perhaps pink sportcoat.

This started off a year or so ago when I attempted to buy a length of a vintage VBC fabric from Il Vecchio Drappiere - think dusty rose with a white windowpane. Then, a day or two later, email: sorry, out of stock.

This thread is going to capture my inner dialogue as I go through various mills+merchants online offerings. I am not really looking for RTW as I tend to doubt there is much on offer in a cut that isn't as questionable in taste as the color may be.

Ariston '23 summer

D064-16 a 60/40 linen/wool blend, 250gram (not sure if square or running meter). Some texture.

P206-9 , probably at the fringes of the colors I am thinking about, but I thought it was interesting, so here it is. 68/18/14 wool/silk/linen, 255gr.

P153-18 is a herringbone 68/18/14 WSL blend.

C149-6. A highly, highly unusual irregular seersucker 96% cotton, 4% other. Presented here as a curiosity

D072-21 - Not a bad linen shade, a bit violet, but I am not looking for 100% linen, I don't think

Australis book:

A bit of texture, 270G/m2, N721048

N721029. Not for me, same book + weight


Jersey book:

50% linen, 26% silk, 24% cashmere 245g/m2. N719058

In the second photo it feels like the grey is more prominent, or there is just less saturation:

Similar phenomenon here:

N179065 looks a bit orange-y, but it becomes WAY more promising with the ruler for scale:

This is 335g/m2 , so this is really FW weight


The Mare book has either herringbones, or too saturated reds

Pivot to Britain:

Standeven has 3 books listed as jacketing. Summerstand has nothing remotely pink, but has 2 interesting saturated reds I am not convinced would really work as jacketing:

I'd like the windowpane to be a bit more pronounced if it is going to be there. Not sure I am looking for this salmon-tone.

Described as pink, nor salmon, but more fuschia. Nah.


There are a couple other herringbones, one super pale.


Quick editorial interjection - the subtle windowpane works beautifully when there is much more contrast:

That is nice and slubby, open weave. 56% linen, 44% silk. 260gms, fabric is 135cm wide which I think is a little narrower than most.
