Not to interrupt the steady flow of snark, but I can't understand why mafoofan is getting so many irritable responses. I don't know much about him and don't think many well read people would agree with his conception of modernism, but he is just asking for a few suggestions.

First thing is first though, Stephenhero doesn't really know much about architecture...as an architect, I can tell you his long winded 'ideas' on what constitutes good or bad architecture are pretty silly. I just recently read his post about 'truth' in architecture and it is a pretty juvenile attempt at 'expert posing'. He is good at posting pictures and being rude under the pretense of being some kind of guru. Just ignore him, he is lonely and unfulfilled.

Skinnygoomba has decent taste in wood furniture but knows just about as much as Stephenhero albeit without the strident assertiveness. There was another poster who said a bunch of things in a conciliatory tone but was equally bereft of any architectural theory.

Anyhow, the best way to decorate your place is to pick pieces that you can use and you think look nice. If that means throwing in a Nakashima or raiding DWR, then that's okay. If you are trying to showcase your good taste or personality through furnishings then you are bound to look silly at some pt.

Even if what you say is true, SH is, at the very least, entertaining.

Almost as awesome as psychoanalyzing and impugning the credentials of someone you've never met.

Perhaps in general, but vernonclark is an architect, so in this case he knows.

I wasn't referring specifically to him. Foo's lawyering abilities have also regularly been dragged through the mud on StyFo. But, in any case, isn't SH an architect, too?

Interesting addition to this thread with VC. It's nice to be acknowledged for having decent taste in wood furniture on the Internet, which is the equivalent of incredible taste in real life.

We know that...cause he said it on the inter-web??

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
