The 2025 Allen Edmonds (AE) Appreciation Thread

Already bought some at the end of last year - darn it.

Lugs are great on snow, mud, rough ice, etc. Been wearing mine lately. Smoother ice is a whole other ball game.

The 2025 Allen Edmonds (AE) Appreciation Thread

I like comfortable "rubber" soles (not leather) and usually re-sole all my new shoes. This is not a sole I would choose to put on mine.

    Everyday winter boots

Allen Edmonds Hamilton Boots in Dark Chili. On sale right now. Understand these are not "winter boots" in the sense that they are insulated. Depending on how cold it gets, good wool socks should do it if your feet get cold. However these are waterproof and would work in an office setting...

Visit to Allen Edmonds Shoe Bank - Port Washington, WI (Thanksgiving 2024)

I have been on a factor tour. Lots of hard working folks, sometimes 2nd or 3rd generations working there from the area. Very few American Made dress shoes anymore (Alden, Rancourt). This is not only a American Pride thing - but having stores across the USA to try on shoes makes finding good fit...

Where is the line drawn on when a suit jacket can be worn as a sport coat?

As a newbie ( 1 year) into men's classic wear and seeing dozens of articles and debates, personally I only think only a few rules apply to be a separate jacket - 1) No Peak Lapels 2) No pinstripes 3) Not overly finished/shinny (needs texture/weave). This is my personal style view. I recently...

VBC fabric line choices for "traveler" sports coats and suits.

I have given up on this supersonic. Will be heading to Blvdier in Chicago and taking a look at Hudcersfield Fresco III and VBC Ascot lines which are very commonly used for "Traveller" suits and sports coats.

VBC fabric line choices for "traveler" sports coats and suits.

I know I looked on the VBC site for Chicago. This was one of only two suit shops listed by VBC in Chicago. https://vitalebarberiscanonico.com/find-us/united-states/chicago/nicholas-joseph-custom-tailors/ Nicolas Joseph said they can't get the Supersonic line. Strange. I think I need to give...

VBC fabric line choices for "traveler" sports coats and suits.

Yes I have several samples. Wonderful stuff. If only someone would make me a sports coat at one of the made to measure suit shops in Chicago using it. I suspect I could go bespoke and simply order the fabric give it to the bespoke suit maker. That would likely be outside my budget. I am pursing...

VBC fabric line choices for "traveler" sports coats and suits.

Thank you very much. This is my plan as no one in Chicago has access to the VBC supersonic line. However it has even higher twist then even the Ascot bunch and was VBC's attempt at an ultimate travel material. It is a shame it is not made widely available to suit makers.

Proper Cloth - Official Affiliate Thread

I bought a different denim from PC, its wonderful. A bit more dressy. https://propercloth.com/dress-shirts/albiate-washed-denim-twill-502260.html

Proper Cloth - Official Affiliate Thread

They are MTM, not bespoke. There are limitations to MTM, where Bespoke is anything goes. That said PC offers a lot of settings/sizing options. Two things to know with PC. 1) They (or you) can adjust the measurements and send a remake. It took me 2-3 times to get my basic fit right. I continued...

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

I guess I understood that Flap was the in between choice - works either way. With jetted being formal, and patch very casual. Again I think I am trying to swim in the deep end with experts on this, not really 99% of public.

I had considered getting second pair of pants, not done that yet.

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

any time I dive into a new interest - shoes, luggage, suits, watches, etc.... I do go down a rabbit hole. Thanks for the reassurance. I do have an older darker navy blazer in hopsack, that is on its last legs. I will consider a separate replacement later this year.

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

At the risk of reigniting the old blazersuit discussion, let me say as a newbie I don't understand everything. This is very close up bright outdoor sun photo of a navy jacket suit separate in Nailhead that I have, next to a high weave fabric from VBC designed specifically for sports...

In the end if you don't get a good fit with the remake, and its not worth tailoring to correct - they will accept it back and issue a refund. They are good about that.

Yes, and he went to their store in NYC (like I did) for a fitting. Two real misses. Something is wrong with their suit process.
