    I think that the “waterproof” natty CXL used on later versions of the Freeport may have a light acrylic clear coating. I discovered this when I had to remove a couple of drops of polycrylic finish that had splattered on my boots. I was able to pretty easily remove it.

    The Carter is on a new last and doesn’t have multiple width options. The Freeport was on the 1757 and had narrow, medium, and wide width options. Allen Edmonds took a big step backwards in replacing the Freeport boot with the Carter.

    Yours look awesome! Good luck in this year’s contest. I wore a pair of Red Wings for the contest last year and finished 12th. I believe that the natty CXL has more potential for interesting patina than that Red Wing leather, but we will find out over the next six months. #Freeportgang
