The (hopefully) definitive thread on NYC tailors

Yea that really is cheap at Peppino's. Any idea how much they charge to have the jacket taken in?

    Restaurant Recommendations

To the entry above regarding yama - yama is very average, but since one of the locations is a block from my apartment, I will eat there from time to time. It's also cheap, and if you're just getting rolls, its not bad. For better sushi in the Yama area, try Ushi Wakamaru - which is about to get...

The (hopefully) definitive thread on NYC tailors

Could people chime in with rough cost for typical suit alterations at Wilfred's, Alexis, and Peppino's? For example: 8 buttons (handsewn or machinesewn) Taking a little in the waist of the coat Hemming pants and taking an inch or so out of the waist of the pant Last time I did this at a place...

Nice deal on some Isaias on STP

Got my suits from Sierra Trading Post (2-day fedex). I ended up ordering one of the three buttons in a 52 since I was skeptical of the 54 to 42/36 conversion they had on the website. Glad I did, the 52 fits much better right (will need to get it taken in in the middle a bit, but I always do)...

    C&J Chelsea Sizing

not dainite, leather sole but with little rubber bumps and a ring of traction. Now that I look at the catalog on Plal, it looks like the Grafton (last 342) so still not the same last (but looks similar)

    C&J Chelsea Sizing

if you're looking at a C&J chelsea with the interesting treads on the bottom, i have it in 9.5d (and i have a rlpl eg monkstrap in 9.5d and an alden in 9.5d) - it fits me very well and is extremely comfortable. don't know if that helps.

Nice deal on some Isaias on STP

I ordered the two button side vent suits - one in the navy stripe and one in the nailhead gray. I ordered based on their sizing conversion (54 = 42/36), but I suspect there sizes may be off. They seem to have a generous return policy if it doesn't work out though (and I have a sibling I could...

Nice deal on some Isaias on STP

Thanks - I managed to convince STP to apply the 20% to the order I already placed (quite impressed by the service). So $1200 for 2 Isaia's. Johnnynorman - thanks for the confirmation on the canvas. I'm really looking forward to these - the only suit I have that I really enjoy wearing is an...

Nice deal on some Isaias on STP

That's my logic. I pulled the trigger on two. I'll let you guys know if they are fused; I should get them Monday. Couldn't get the 20% to work, but did get a 10% to work, so $1350 for two. It ultimately came down to 2x these Isaia's for $1350 or the Brioni linked below. Now, could someone do me...

Nice deal on some Isaias on STP

I did a search and previous STP sales of Gianluca / Isaia stuff was believed to be the lower end Gianluca fused products. Are these believed to be fused?

    Best dry cleaners in NYC?

Any ideas? I've got one suit that I'd really like to give the royal treatment when it comes to cleaning. Preferably in east 50s or West Village. Thanks.

    Non-tux (groomsmen) wedding wear suggestions?

(ballines @ 06 Jan. 2005, 3:38) Possibly considering having everyone wear their best navy suits, but having matching accessories (vests, ties, handkerchiefs, hats, canes, umbrellas, etc.) Oof. No hats, canes, or umbrellas. I'm begging you. Yes, those were mostly jokes. Just wanted to get the...

Can someone post pictures of Lobb Paris shoes?

I'm considering getting a pair of Lobb Paris shoes, either the Jermyn II or the double monkstrap (maybe the William?). Does anyone know where to find good pictures of these shoes (in different colors if possible)? Also, how do these shoes typically fit? I wear a 9.5D pretty reliably (RLPL/EG...

    Non-tux (groomsmen) wedding wear suggestions?

I have a friend getting married in the coming year who has asked me for suggestions for attire for the groomsmen. The obvious and safe answer is to go with matching (rented) tuxedos, but he finds this a bit dull and overly traditional. Possibly considering having everyone wear their best navy...
