I'd add Henry Bucks to the menswear store list. But only during their sales.

I picked up a full cashmere overcoat for around $600. From SuitSupply. One of my most astute menswear purchases. I picked up an Ascot from Henry Buck's.

Henry Bucks certainly used to stock Drakes' ties. The Sydney store in O'Connell st may not have many/any, but you could check online and maybe ask for some to be shipped up from Melbourne...

So I'm looking at blown-up pics of Old Sydney on a construction site hoarding in Castlereagh St. Some old bloke in a natty DB chalkstripe suit starts talking to me - "here's the building where my great-grandfather started our family business" etc. We had a nice chat and then he introduces...

    Brooks Brothers Bankruptcy Thread

Well, I now know why the BB flagship stores in Melbourne and Sydney were suddenly closed down. For the final two weeks before their doors slammed shut, the Sydney store had everything at 80% discount. I went crazy. Four pairs of shoes, a seersucker suit, two jackets, an incredible shearling...

The high end Chinese Shoe Thread

Seems most of the Shanghai bespoke outfits that were prominent when I was living there (around ten years ago) have either fallen by the wayside or not kept up. I did get one pair from Jack Peng - very well made but overpriced. There were a few others that had shop fronts in the Former French...

Thanks for following, I noticed that. I don't think clickable links to other social media are allowed under SF rules.

    The Official-ish DC Thread

I actually got my B&T commission through Joe Ha (The Finery Company) in Sydney. Fox Brothers POW flannel. Took a few goes to get it right though. Beautifully made - finishing is exceptional. I did visit the B&T atelier in Seoul but it was really just a look-see. They were very hospitable -...

My experiences with Joe/TFC have always been good. I ordered a suit from B&Tailor a few years back - sizing was all wrong when delivered; Joe returned it to Seoul no less than twice, at no extra cost, until I was happy with the fit. I've also purchased some items "off the rack" from TFC at one...

Thanks, I will see if I can get a booking at Shoraian. I suspect that the late Beethoven quartets probably just sound like a jumble of unrelated melodies and weird discontinuities to an unfamiliar ear. They require dozens of listens before they really start to make sense. From then on, their...

In fact I always do drop in to Dotonbori when I'm there. There's a great yakitori place right down beside the canal. They all yell out a greeting when you walk in. And they serve Kirin draught in a chilled glass with ice all over the outside. Priceless!

Doubtless you also eschew Vacheron Constantin because they're not Patek Philippe.

And while we're on the subject of music: Melbourne residents might be interested in the 3MBS Beethoven Marathon on Sunday 23rd February. My orchestra (Corpus Medicorum) is finishing up the marathon with a performance of the Fifth. Dadada dum.....dadada dum...... That one.
