Jofaile, I wore a white french-cuffed dress shirt with a gold tie and a blue 3-button suit to a Christmas party a few months ago and received tons of compliments. Go for it, and with the spread collar you'll look even more elegant. And hold on to the girlfriend. It's hard to find ones with style- PConsultant

The color purple
I'm not too familiar with lavender, but I prefer a deep purple. Ralph Lauren uses it often in his fashions and it looks incredible. As many of my friends say, only certain men can pull off an ensemble with purple involved; luckily, they include me in said group- PConsultant

Blazer with jeans?
That GQ story was "4 Cheers for Our Avant-Garde" from the September 2001 issue (page 304) and featured pics of and comments from Hedi Slimane, Marc Jacobs, Helmut Lang, and Tom Ford. They all look pretty cool in their blazer, white shirt, and jeans combos but (as others have noted)...- PConsultant

Shaving with/against grain
GQ addressed this in a "Personal Best" column a few years ago. As far as I can remember, they recommended coating the face with lots of hot water to soften the beard (or, if possible, shaving during/after a shower - it's the best) and then applying the shaving cream. Shave your face...- PConsultant

Pants: pleats, flat front, and no crease...
I prefer the flat front look myself and agree that it's hard to find suit pants that are flat front. Please don't haze the new guy!
I agree with GQ Lawyer about the monkstraps - they are too casual, especially for a "meet the company" meeting. When it comes to the color of the suit, I wouldn't wear a solid black suit. It's very formal and may look a little too severe. I prefer a navy blue or dark gray - it's conservative but...- PConsultant

Resale outlets
Another one to check out is Filene's Basement. They're just like T.J. Maxx and often have some great stuff. However, it takes some patient searching and often multiple visits. In the end, though, it's well worth it.- PConsultant

Need some advice
There are a lot of things that could go well with the pants and shoes. Try a white dress shirt and a gray, black, or dark blue sweater - it's simple and will work. You could also throw in a cool checked shirt, but it has to be just right in order not to look odd. As for the red, it depends on...- PConsultant
