Just stumbled on this via Reddit:

Today I learned what a hook grip truly is... All this time I just assumed hook grip meant what is actually mixed grip. I tried it out for my warmup sets and starting at 135#, my thumbnail literally felt like it was being ripped out. :fu: Definitely going to start using it more from now on but...

    How big are SFers?

Three months later... I'm 158/159. Closing in on 160. Put on decent amount of fat as well, not too bothered so long as I continue to make gains in lifts (or at the very least, maintain)

Thanks for the feedback. And just to clarify, I certainly didn't expect training to be a cakewalk. I guess since I won't be training for speed (more or less looking to run at a 11 min pace), I was deluding myself in thinking that I could still train and maintain gains... I certainly do have to...

suggestions for a starter weightlifting program..

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/Starting_Strength_Wiki http://stronglifts.com/ These two resources helped me a great deal. Make sure to really get your form down before progressing, even if it means starting with just the bar (which is what SS calls for during warmup anyways...)

Had a surprisingly decent workout today. Had a bit much to drink last night and couldn't sleep most of the night *and* felt like **** most of the morning. Missed the last rep on squats, but not bothered by it. Also any distance runners in this thread? The reason I ask is that I'll be running a...

    Affordable Whey Protein?

+1 I used to go with ON from BB.com but I stumbled on this brand at WalMart. Much cheaper and tastes pretty good too!

+1 to doing SS right away. I've posted this several times already, but use the excel logbook found in the SS wiki: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/Tools_and_Downloads You can tweak it as you wish initially. 100lbs in each of the lifts maybe too high (especially ohp).

Literally haven't run at all in the last three months and I went back to playing midfielder (have been playing goalie past few months) in soccer... holy ****... the 20 lbs I put on really did a number on me. I was ready to keel over after four minutes playing in the field. I felt like **** all...

    Random health and exercise thoughts

When was the last time you took a week off? I aim for a week off every two months. But if you're feeling physically, emotionally, AND mentally drained... that's your cue right there. Take a week (or two) off and focus on stretching/foam rolling tight spots and I'm willing to bet that you'll...

Take a week off. It won't help with boredom, but you'll be itching to get a workout in. And 4000 calories but 50kg bench.. hrm what are your other lifts like?

    Random health and exercise thoughts

I go to a gym that's built into the workplace so I have to be careful about this too. A simple smile and saying "thanks for the advice man, I'll keep that in mind" or "I've worked with a trainer in the past" works.

Your shoes could be the reason you lost balance. Are they running shoes with a lot of padding at the heel? Try squatting in something like chucks or even barefoot next time.

    Random health and exercise thoughts

Speaking of shoulder issues... it's about time I make an appointment to get my right one checked out. Made the stupid mistake of throwing a soccer ball down the field again and it's been killing me all day. Skipped bench/pullups today and could barely do squats (had to use a super wide grip)...

Hrm... son of a *****. According to the site, I've been doing SS wrong all this time. :fu: My fault for not having read the book completely It breaks it down into four phases and in the first phase it has you doing deadlifts three times a week and drops it down to once a week in phase two...

Depends what lift you're talking about... I've always heard that 1.5 x bw squat is considered intermediate level. Deadlift numbers should be 1.5-2 x bw for intermediate. *Edit*: strstd.com numbers seem to confirm what I said. There are ranges for bench and ohp as well...
