    Not keen on pointy shoes

I mean, where can you get a Handgrade quality shoe on a traditional last (shorter with a rounded toe)? Too much pointiness going on at C&J (337, 348, 358), Cheaney (Imperial collection), G&G, AS (Handgrade). I'd like to buy Handgrade, but there's absolutely nothing available, and I don't fit...

** Quintessential Crockett & Jones Thread ** (reviews, quality, etc...)

Browsing the shoe scene (as usual). Checked out a pair of C&J Connaught in London. Quite low cut, so didn't fit that nicely around my ankle, plus the leather's quite soft and supple. Didn't feel very substantial. Prefer a 'tougher' leather, say the stuff that Church's used on the old 100 last.

    Alfred Sargent Handgrade - Pictures

Noticed the Grenson 0004-01 (what a ridiculous name for a shoe) has the same brogued arse cheeks as some AS stuff.

Shoe Damage Report & Shoe P0rn Central - Part II

The mark-up is absurd. I think N&L use Cheaney's lower-line - i.e. boots £399, now £299; shoes - £369, now £269. Given that Cheaney retail at around £300, that's a big drop. It isn't of course if they are made from Cheaney's mid £200 range.

Shoe Damage Report & Shoe P0rn Central - Part II

What a mark-up! It takes the piss. And more so when they refuse to tell you who makes the shoes. I'm always wary of made-for shoes. In most cases, you're going to pay more for a pair you could easily get elsewhere. For example, W.S. Foster's EG line is in the region of £725. Go into EG...

    Church's Chetwynd

Few concerns (for a £370 shoe): 1. colour - bit dull. I'm surprised Church's stock such a limited range of colours. 2. shape - last 173 is a bit square. As I recall, it isn't all that interesting. I preferred the old 100 last. 3. quality issues - some of their shoes are linen-lined. Not...

    Church's Chetwynd

What do you make of these? Leather quality? Worth the money? Last well? I wish they'd make them in this colour

Lotus (c. 1920s or 1930s?). http://www.staffspasttrack.org.uk/ Search for 'trade stand', p.3 - can enlarge the photograph. The rubber soles looks the same as the ones on the shoes. The rubber soles are actually dated (I think): 10.3.25.

    Discuss Swaine Adeney Brigg cases

I liked the shop, though I found it slightly intimidating. I felt that I shouldn't touch anything, and if I did I'd have a sales assistant breathing down my neck. The bags were far too heavy. There's no way I'd spend £1000 on one of their bags. I wonder why they didn't make a lighter...

** Quintessential Crockett & Jones Thread ** (reviews, quality, etc...)

How well have they held up? The chestnut colour is lovely. Too good for heavy use. I'm after an Oxford chestnut brogue, really. I don't fit their 341 last (e.g. Westfield) or the 202 last (e.g. Edward Green Malvern). You know, saved up, money in my pocket and no quality maker sells...

RM Williams Boots - Everything You Wanted to Know

Well, no response from R.M.Williams. Pretty crappy customer service. I don't think I'll ever buy from them again.

RM Williams Boots - Everything You Wanted to Know

The second pair fit like a glove, so no problems with the fit. This was the only pic I took, but looking at the boots from the back (at rest) you can see a distinct line where the leather is tight against the heel stiffener. I think there's slightly too much leather there. It pushes inwards...

RM Williams Boots - Everything You Wanted to Know

The staff in the shop were exceptionally helpful. I fail to understand how boots of this quality can be fouled up so badly. The first boot is awful. I'm happy to have a go myself - show me the machine, take me through it, and let me make a pair.

RM Williams Boots - Everything You Wanted to Know

Oh well, I'll have to pass on R.M.Williams. They fouled up my first MTO, and I think they fouled up the second. It looks 'off' anyway. I placed the original order in December - 8 months ago! Got a refund. First MTO: Second MTO: Note the bulge in the leather as it pushes against...

    Stuck for brogues!

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'm going to shell out on EG or C&J Handgrade quality. Cheaney are nice though.

    Stuck for brogues!

I think it would have to be the real deal. The Malvern is probably perfection in brogue. C'est la vie.
