After a life in the socks' business, it is (believe me) really good to discover people is paying a lot of attention to this item. It is really a little accessory but, as underwear, can be really annoying if it is not the correct one. The matter comfort/durability has always been a key point and...

For durability unfortunately no other solution than having more nylon and elastan in the composition. Socks are subjiect to friction, specially on heel and toe. To compensate, the yarn should be very thick or having syntetic blended. Of course this will change the comfort and the transpiration...

the best is always cotton. if durability is an issue, cotton+nylon.

yes. But the cotton and silk will be a much "dry" hand compared to the cashmere and silk

The hand is completely different and the cotton is stronger than cashmere

When you have different colors, the yarn of one color has to enter and then to exit somewhere. So either inside you have a "link" thread between the two point where it is entering and it exiting, or you have the thread cut. The real argyle machine cut the threads, but not very short, otherwise...

yes, of course. You can produce cotton socks on all the machines. So also on 88, 120 or 176 needles, which lead to a medium to an heavy weight cotton sock. We tried bamboo years ago (before it was "trendy") as we always experiment new yarns. It was good, but didn't really have (at that time...

Palatino, Sozzi, Bresciani.. most of the Italian fine brands. German, French and UK are more "heavy". It is just a different concept, Italians are more focus on comfort, German, French and UK on durability. The problem is that you can increase durability only adding syntetic or go for an higher...

it is true that is quite difficult to go deeper in suggestion without becoming too much technical. The gauge and number of needles, the knitting, the count of the yarn.. a lot of details are involved. But as it is difficult to check those out if you are not a technic, I will go for 100% cotton...

you need something light and transpirant as 100% cotton or 100% linen. You can find different weight available, go for the lighter one you can buy

Very difficult ... too many friends in the business :) I can just tell that between 20$ and 50$ the best brands are the names everybody knows : Pantherella, Falke, Gallo .. then you have the "group" of the smaller business (usually Family Companies) like Marcoliani, Bresciani, Palatino, Sozzi...

talking about man's socks, I never found a machine with more than 264 needles. You have then woman's machines with higher number of needles, but I'm not familiar with them. Actually it is depending on the yarns used. The thread has to go trough the needle and since man's usually don't use...

honestly I see big brands prices higher than those ones, I think it is a personal choise. For sure they are quality socks produced using exclusive yarns.

I knew they had 2 producers in Italy. Quality is high and the prices most of the time is due to the exclusives yarns they use. Can't tell the name of producers for privacy reason.
