Title is pretty self-explanatory; I'm looking for a white pique vest for my wedding in January... I can't seem to find one that is under $150 that isn't either cut like a bag or some nasty cotton/poly blend. So... Should I buck up and get the Talbott Protocol ($200+) or is there a good middle ground available that I am missing? I live in the Seattle area, so if there is a good retail joint to check out I can handle that. Option #2 would be a black formal vest cut in the same way, though these seem even more difficult to locate (eBay returns ghastly 5+ button vests).

Also, if I am going down the white vest route, should I stick with the black bow tie, or go white pique? I'm wearing a 1 button peak lapel tux, if that matters.

Thanks for any advice coming my way, I'm a bit lost when it comes to formal goodness, and I want to do it right.

Can't help you on a source for the vest, other than to suggest Brooks Brothers and Jos.A.Bank as possibilities. I can tell you with certainty that if you do get a pique vest, you still where a black silk tie. The white tie is for "White Tie" dress, which is a tailcoat. Tuxedos, no matter what the vest configuration, still take black tie, not white.

Brooks has them for, I believe, 175-200. Backless., three-button, low-cut.

I bought mine from BB. It isn't offered on the website, but can get it in their stores. My store didn't have any in stock, but I ordered it from the special order desk and they shipped it from another store directly to my home. It was $175 and is very nice. 3 button, low cut, cotton pique. Has a button tab to fasten to a button on the inside of the trousers to prevent the dreaded "vest gap" showing between trouser waistband and vest.

I have the black one. But note that you won't find it just anywhere. I know they have them at 346 Madison, but I also know that a lot of other locations do not carry the three-button vests in either color.
