Hi all,
I bought the purple/lilac wide leg jeans and really like them. But they're not the sort of thing I usually wear and not sure what they go with! Can anyone give me some tips about how to wear them? I bought the matching U t-shirt to go with them too but not sure I like them together, double lilac is a bit too much of a "look" for me as a 45-year-old dad, I think. How do these outfits look?

(I usually post this sort of thing in the advice forum, but it's been dead there recently. I miss having Derek Guy here to tell me all my clothes look ****).

How do you find the jeans fit, did you go with your normal size? I’m interested in the brown ones, but the measurements suggest they fit bigger than the tagged size. Any thoughts?

Well I'm usually a 32 or 34, with a 32 sometimes being a bit tight and a 34 sometimes being a bit loose. But these handily come in a 33 (the largest they come in) which seems to fit me well.

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, in Canada, Uniqlo doesn't go larger than a 34" in these. I'm normally a 36" waist but the 34" is supposed to measure 35 5/6". However, based on your experience they seem more TTS?

Yes, they seem to fit fine to me!

Anyone got any thoughts on the lilac jeans I posted? I only got one "wow" emoji so far and I'm not sure if it was a good or bad wow! I do like them but not sure what they will go with in my wardrobe. And searching for inspiration on Google all I found was a dieworkwear post where purple jeans are specifically given as an example of the sort of thing someone might buy and regret later.

First you might consider if Lilac is a good color for you. Look up seasonal color analysis which uses the color tones of your skin, eyes, and hairs, to help you understand what colors flatter your natural self or washes you out.

If Lilac is one of your suitable seasonal colors, it will naturally go with other colors from the same season, which is probably spring, if it's a vivid lilac, or summer, if it's a faded lilac. From your pictures it's hard to tell.

Among the colors of your season, you may look best in monochrome looks, as in one of your pics, or in neutral or tonal looks, various shades of blue and purple, or in boldly contrasting colors, like maybe a red top lilac bottom, green top lilac bottom etc. What will help you see which combination most flatters you is understanding your style essence. Look that up, which uses your facial features and body shape to determine your "vibe", which may be relaxed (earth tones), playful (contrasting), intense (monochrome), or otherwise etc. It will also tell you the styles you look most naturally good in.

This is a good way to find looks, styles, and colors that make you look wonderful as you, and not look like a person in a costume or a fashion stylist disaster. This is why some people pull off certain looks and other people pull off different look. Get to know you and it makes shopping and fashion very easy, fun, and self-affirming. And wouldn't that be nice?

i think the second look is fire and a good usage of color. i would hem them for a cleaner leg but otherwise i think it's a great classic fit with visual interest because it's got a little color.

They not my cup of tea, but if you like them, I think you can pull them off.

I think for a lilac the color isn’t offensive and has a fairly natural vibe to them. Personally I would wear with brown’s, ecru, white, grey, indigo or maybe a light denim jacket.

Surprisingly impressed by the utility overshirt from the U collection. Fabric is like a lightweight poplin and feels similar to a couple of MHL shirts I have. The shape / fit is really flattering too imo, roomy with almost 'puffy' sleeves and a nice drape. I thought it might have been too busy with the vent, pockets, additional tab buttons etc, but in person it isn't. Despite what people have said in the reviews i'd recommend going with your normal size if you want a 'regular fitting' oversized shirt (if that makes sense). I just picked up a different colour in the sale and sized up to see if it might also work as a proper overshirt / lightweight outwear type thing.

I've also picked up the open collar shirt in the sale so will see what it's like as the shape does look interesting. Has anyone tried either of the oversized short sleeve shirts?

Tempted by a few things in the women’s, including the parachute pants in the longer length, utility hooded coat, striped longline shirt etc.

Missed out on all the JWA stuff I might have been interested in apart from the cotton jacket (anyone tried it?).

I have the open collar and the utility overshirt (both sized down one). Open collar is perfect for me like that, length and fit. But Utility Overshirt isnt working for me as an overshirt much, it actually is still too big and shapeless! But I do like it and think I can style.

All that to say I tried the short sleeve shirts and found them completely formless and way too long, very very comical.

I agree, the utility overshirts are one of the best pieces this season. I sized up actually and I like the looseness, it feels very intentional. TTS is still good with the relaxed fit.

I wanted to like the S/S shirts but it just makes me look like a grandpa that's not in a cool way. I do like the fabric they used though.

I also have the W's parachute pants and I highly recommend it. I took two sizes up and the hem buttons taper nicely.

Even with the minimal offering, I find JWA season to be a bit more focused this time. The cotton jacket works for me TTS and is a good daily beater chore coat. The pique stripe tee has a nice retro vibe too.

They look great! Perhaps it's the lighting but the lilac doesn't really stand out. It looks neutral coloured enough to be treated like white or grey trousers.

I really wanted to get them, but Uniqlo's trousers are always too short for me. These aren't an exception.
Yep they're too short for me too BUT! There's a full two inches in the hem if you let it out all the way and sew in a matching facing, which is what I did.
