I'm just getting started and really need to add a pair of black shoes to my wardrobe. So, I'm thinking about getting a pair of black boots that could be worn causally or slightly dressed up. What I've found so far that I think looks good is the Florsheim Hugo:

It's part of the Florsheim Imperial line, so I'm guessing the quality would be half way decent for $160? If anyone has recommendations of something similar, I'd be happy to hear them! I'm willing to pay up to $350 if the quality is noticeably better. Thanks for any help!

What's the reason for the preference? Also, those appear to be well over my $350 limit. Is there a place they can be had cheap?

Should the Frye boot be of a much higher quality than the one I posted?

Yeah, I have seen pics of them with wear. I don't know, they just never develop the sleeker toebox I prefer.

I may still get a pair on sale one day, having said that.

I have no recent experience with Florsheim, but people have always told me Frye makes a great shoe for the $$. How much are the ones you posted?

THis is the current version (less polished/dressy than previous ones I've seen that may still be available elsewhere):

The ones I posted are $160. Do the Frye boots fit true to size? I wear a 12 in most sneakers, 11.5 in Clark's DB. I found a good deal on the Frye boots you've posted, $118, but they only have sizes 11 and 12. No returns accepted, so it's hit or miss! Any suggestions?

You could always go to a site like zappos and buy a bunch of sizes to try (assuming no local retailer). Zappos ships and lets you return for free.

Sadly, they don't carry that boot in any size I would wear. I've also checked other online shoe retailers that offer free shipping / free returns, and they don't either. Also, there is definitely no place locally to try them on... or almost anything for that matter.

The Frye Emmet Chelsea and Emmet Inside also seems kind of nice. I like the black sole better than the brown on the Oliver, but I don't know that I care for the square toe.
