Raglan Tweed Overcoat - Fit Check

Got this excellent raglan from Ebay the other day. I'm a 34-36 chest and it's a very roomy 36. I'd usually say this is definitely way too big, but I've read raglan overcoats are a bit more forgiving and meant to be quite roomy. Nevertheless suspect this is pushing it.

If I wear it cinched at the back with a loose knot on the belt, and rolled sleeves:

Should I just get the sleeves shortened by a tailor? Anything else? Or is it a lost cause lol.

I'm unlikely to find something this nice sub-200 2nd hand any time soon, so keen to work with what I've got. But I still have a return window for it.

I don't think it looks overly roomy on you at all. Looks very good to me. I like the length too. I'd shorten the sleeves a bit (understanding that an overcoat should have slightly longer sleeves than a sportcoat) and that's all.

Agreed. A raglan like this should have an A-shape, I think it's about right. While a coat like this may look a bit large when you're standing still in front of the mirrior, it gets a lot of momentum when you walk (especially if you unbutton it - it's a coat with "swoosh". Also, the roomy chest means you can layer underneath it - a chunky knit for cold weather, for example. Possibly shorten the sleeves a tad, but keep enough that there's no gap between the sleeve and gloves - longer sleeves helps keep your hands and wrists warm!

Thanks both, decided to keep it and get the sleeves taken up a bit. learning to love the roominess. It does layer nicely over even tweed sport coats. It's so swooshy too, I can't bear to button it up!
