I appreciate your encouragement, I really do, but was just hoping for some informed advice rather than enabling.

These Conistons are a cool thing, completely waterproof, the colour, although obviously black, is interesting depending on the lighting. The sole is wonderful, soft, has great traction and doesn't catch too many stones. They have such a military vibe

Any owners of the black roughout Conistons on vibram lugged willing to share their views? I've been offered some at a very tempting price so weighing it up.

If you want some less than glowing feedback.

My brown grain Conistons are my favorite shoes. My pembrokes are also awesome. I had done two trips to Japan with daily walking in my grain Conistons, so for my trip last month I bought the black RO suede pair, as I was expecting some possible rain and wanted something black.

Its probably the worst pair of CJ's I own.

The tongue on the left boot won't sit straight, and is constantly shifting to the left. Not a problem w/ Islay, grain Coniston, or Vass boots I own.

The laces broke on day 4 (luckily I planned for this, since C+J laces are **** and I had some HP laces in my bag ready for this to happen).

Worst of all, the right boot seems to have a funny break in point for me, where it was annihilating the top of my big toe. Had a giant blister by day 6 in a place I've never had a blister in my life.

Nice looking boot. I mildly hate and regret them.

Thanks for the honest appraisal. I guess it's possible that you were unlucky...

I wouldn't blame the tongue issue on that particular model or leather. One of my Islays had the same thing, and many others here have dealt with this in C&J boots. It is a systemic flaw with their boots and something that they really should address (half or quarter gusseting?). Unfortunately, if there's one thing about C&J, it's that they have zero damns to give about what their customers might suggest.

I have a number of pairs of older C&J, including my original Ralph Lauren Lindricks, that came from the factory with the extra tongue stitch to help keep it in place.

I am going to Paris personally so I will be able to check it out personally. Jist checking here if someone knows what I can expect there. (read as “how much €€& I should save for that visit!)

The C&J Madeleine store, is certainly worth a visit. I reckon Upper Shoes, has the largest offering with a french influence around. Check them out, while in town (oh, and JM Weston and Paraboot too!).
Enjoy your stay.
