Are Real Hoxton shirts actually made in England? I don't understand how they can be so cheap if they're truly English made. Does anyone here own one? Does it say on the label?

Made in England doesn't necessarily mean expensive, or even well made either.
Not now anyway.

Not 100% sure, Nik, but I have a donkey jacket from them. It says Made In England on the tags(Baracuta-style hang loop and the tag on the inside seam).

My brother’s college room mate’s dad worked in a donkey jacket factory in the midlands - Nottingham or Maybe Manchester? Our Mam got all three of us donkey jackets at a reduced rate. Mine had no plastic on the shoulders and a wool black watch lining. I think my other brother might even still have it at his house. It was hard wearing and warm and must be 40 years old now. A long shot but could be the same factory Hoxton is using. Donkey jackets seem to be quintessentially English so maybe one item that hasn’t been outsourced to Asia?

Ben Nevis is ‘Made in England’.

Not sure donkey jackets have shed their Socialist Worker newspaper vendor image though.
As I’ve said a few times on here I got a US Navy pea coat for $35 off eBay which does the job of a donkey jacket with a bit more style.

I have never liked pea coats - too boxy. Donkey jacket has bit more room though I would never wear one of those either.

I like mine. Good for chopping wood, changing tires, puttering around a cold garage, etc.
@Thin White Duke I know you’ve lived in America for a while, but it’s definitely a cultural perception thing. To me, and to a lot of people who see me wearing one, a donkey jacket has a touch of class, aesthetically speaking only mind you, that a pea coat doesn’t have.
My broom on the other hand…

Well each to his own like but I’m struggling to think of a more boxy garment than a donkey jacket. It’s literally a large rectangle of melton wool with rectangular patch pockets and usually a rectangle of plastic across the shoulders. The pea coat has the angles of the lapels and slash pockets to break up the rectangles a bit. Plus mine is waisted too.

I’ve never seen them side by side but I’d also guess that the bullet proof kersey wool is denser, heavier and more wind resistant than the melton of my ol’ DJ. Still, the DJ served me well at school and through countless trips schlepping back and forth through headingley and Beckett’s Park when I was at Carnegie!

Pea coats are tight and very buttoned up. So they look like neither jacket nor coat.

There is more room in a donkey jacket which make them appear more practical. Each to his own, as you say. Or neither, in my case.

Saw a vintage Donkey Jacket for sale on ebay with this label:

Do Not Dry Clean?
Yeah, wasn't gonna happen.
Might as well have a 'Not to be used for ballet' label on football boots.
