Thanks guys,

appreciate the suggestions. Thanks for the links @dieworkwear , I sure as hell won't be able to sell this jacket anymore, so maybe a repair and using it as a beater jacket is the way to go (man, it was a badass jacket too, just could have used some extra room).

I did initially contact Grailed the first time I sensed something was up (when this guy refused to show me any photos of the damage or the packaging). I told them I was working through a paypal claim, and suspected that the buyer had filed a claim to receive a refund, then asked them if they provide any seller protection for a situation like this.

Grailed Buyer: simonbateson2

Grailed Email Chain: They were cool and understanding about it, but generally not much they could do, planning to tag back up with them now and show them what I just received back.
Hi guys,
I recently sold a brand new jacket to a buyer on here and upon arrival he opened a paypal dispute claiming the jacket arrived with a tear and asking for a $150 partial refund. I asked him for photo documentation of the tear and the packaging that the jacket arrived in to asses damage and open a claim with USPS but he refuses to provide anything. I believe this buyer is fraudulently attempting to get cash back on his purchase or receive an unwarranted refund on a purchase that was made using this site. As a seller, is there anything I can do to ensure I am protected on my end? I have already uploaded the pre-shipment jacket photos to paypal that ensure/show the jacket had no damage what so ever prior to being shipped. If the buyer intentionally tears the jacket upon arrival in order to receive a refund, is there any way I am protected against that? I appreciate any help/suggestions you may have for this unfortunate transaction.

Hey,

We’re currently working on a way to be able to mediate PayPal claims and disputes. At the moment, PayPal does not allow us to do that. I truly apologize for the inconvenience. :(

However, it seems the information you've provided PayPal should suffice in helping your claim. Please let me know how it goes!

Best,
XXXX

===================
Thank you for the response XXXX, are you all able to remove fraudulent buyers from grailed after reviewing the issue?

Is there anything that can be done? This buyer threatens that if the PayPal claim is unsuccessful in a refund attempt, he will attempt to file a credit card charge back. I continue to offer a partial refund with photo documentation of the damage but the request is ignored.

Just trying to find out what type of protection a seller has here when buyers decide to change their mind on a purchase.

Regards,

jsd

Hey Sam,

If you provide PayPal with all the information you provided me, as well as tracking and photo documentation, you should be covered. Please let me know how it goes. Again, I'm sorry for the inconvenience. The user has since been banned and we continue monitoring our website for users like this. It is absolutely not tolerated.

Best,
XXXX
Grailed Team

I'll keep you guys posted on what the final result of this ends up being, not really holding my breath for much, but sure as hell going to fight this one till the end (really kicking myself for not getting that damn shipping insurance).

**** that sucks, I saw that jacket on there and remembered that jacket from
The vanson thread, hard to forget the forest green. I would also contact grailed, I know they usually try to do better for sellers than PayPal alone.

Edit: sorry didn't see the additional page of replies all saying the same thing I did haha

Damn, @jsd642 that blows. Such a sick jacket too. I imagine buyer accidentally sliced it (like you said) and is being a terrible person. Don't beat yourself up about the insurance too much. Could have happened to anyone, just ****** luck it happened to be you. Hope something works out.

A while back, someone joked about how TOJ, should've attached Distorbiant's jacket to the inside of the packaging so that it would puncture if opened with a sharp object. Sucks to see something like that seems to have actually happened with the buyer. That forest green really stood out on the thurston-vanson thread too.

If nothing works out for you, try getting in contact with Thurston, to see if Vanson might be able to help you out. Possibly repair and widen the jacket a bit to fit you? Vanson does have some sort of service like that...

@jsd642

So much for the Grailed guarantee.

Check out their /about page

"Every purchase conducted through Grailed is eligible for both PayPal and Grailed Buyer and Seller Protection. If there is an issue with a transaction the Grailed Protection team will assist you in filing a PayPal claim and provide PayPal’s fraud team with all relevant information. With our assistance PayPal resolves claims speedily and effectively. In the rare instance the case is decided unfairly, both buyer and seller are fully covered by Grailed and we will reimburse the affected party."

According to this, Grailed owes you $1000....

I'd be sending their customer service an email with a link to their own guarantee.

Goodluck

@jsd642 Also, a motorcycle leathers repair specialist should be able to fix that slash and make it almost invisible, I've seen amazing examples of repairs on racing leathers after the rider goes down and the leather suit looks almost new.

@proteinnerd appreciate the use information regarding grailed, will get an email out to them today and see if they can actually do anything for me in this situation. I'll get in touch with Thurston + Vanson and see what options I might have to get this fixed up, hopefully cost isn't too extreme.

thanks all for the information/suggestions, will be sure to keep thread updated with final outcome.

meet-the-man-creating-custom-leather-for-beyonc-rihanna-and-britney-spears-1464275705.jpg

There are two stores called L.A. Roxx off Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. One is a Forever 21-priced boutique specializing in sexy party dresses and handkerchief tops. The other is a leather brand that has been creating custom stage outfits for music industry MVPs since 1986, with clients ranging from Axl Rose to Beyoncé. Sharon Rahim, the sole owner and manager of the latter business, probably isn't even aware the first exists. In fact, he isn't even aware of whether or not Beyoncé wore the custom leather bodysuits he made for her Formation World Tour. "I have started to check a little more recently," Rahim says over the phone from Hollywood, "just because it's become a little more exciting and fun now." It's not like he doesn't care where his designs end up, just that he has his hands quite full with reams of heavy fabric, countless metal studs, and industrial sewing machines of the sort he recently lugged around the set of Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" video after being given five days to help outfit her entire squad. "I personally like to keep a small team," Rahim says. "I feel like once there are too many hands involved it gets a little out of control."
It would be impossible to name every iconic outfit L.A. Roxx has helped create since Axl and Slash rolled in to the store having just signed a deal with Geffen Records. But a few of the author's favorites: the red jumpsuit Britney Spears wore in the video for "Oops... I Did It Again," the leather corset from the L.A. leg of Rihanna's ANTI tour, and the bodysuits for Beyoncé's backup dancers at the 2014 VMAs. There's also a custom studded leather jacket that Wiz Khalifa has worn with many a pair of his cool pants. i-D spoke to Rahim about his sex store beginnings, his favorite memories, and being Hollywood's best-kept secret.

Rihanna's ANTI tour
You've been around since 1986, is that correct?
Well, sorta. I was only three years old at the time. I had just moved to Los Angeles from Israel and we had no money, so my two older brothers started the brand back then with some help from my dad. They were around 15 and 16. It started out as a store on Hollywood Boulevard back when rock 'n' roll in Hollywood was really big. I grew up watching my brothers make and sell jackets. I would shadow them at meetings, hang out with the seamstresses and salesmen, and eventually started selling jackets when I was 13. I opened up my own lingerie and sex shop on the block. Then I was 22, I pretty much took over [my brothers' business] and made it my own. As cliche as it may sound, fashion and clothing is in my blood.
So you started off just doing leather jackets?
Yeah. It started just as a leather jacket shop. My brothers used to buy jackets back in the 80s, then they started making them based on what was going on in fashion and what was going on in the scene. People would ask for a certain thing and they'd just start doing it. Airbrushing and studding jackets was their thing. They would just experiment. Then next thing you know they're making jackets for Guns N' Roses, Motley Crue, Elton John, Michael Jackson, and Madonna. The thing about Hollywood Boulevard back then is that it was a rock 'n' roll haven. Stylists and costume designers would come out there and pull stuff or buy stuff for their clients, who happened to be rock 'n' rollers. All the movies and music videos and hair bands and studios were all based in L.A., and the record labels as well were all based in L.A. My brother once told me about Axl Rose when he was handing out flyers for the band's shows — when they were first starting out. It's funny, I had the pleasure of making some pieces for the new X-Men movie that's coming out, and Louise Mingenbach, the costume designer for the films, used to buy jackets for her and her clients back in the early 90s.

Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" music video
Are there any particular memories that really stand out to you?
I met one of Lady Gaga's stylists, Brandon Maxwell, back when I had a store on Hollywood Boulevard. Just coincidentally he was asking me for a lighter, and he asked me where he could get a leather jacket from. I said, "Inside," and he just came in and we started this relationship where I started doing lots of pieces for Lady Gaga and then Rihanna, and Taylor Swift, and Beyoncé — it really snowballed into something bigger after that. Recently I was on set of the Taylor's "Bad Blood" music video and I made almost all the leather outfits that were used. It was a five-day shoot, and Joseph Cassell (Taylor's stylist) came to me just a few days earlier and needed outfits for pretty much all the talent. Given the time and resources needed, I grabbed two of my best sewers and built the outfits while on set. We had to lug these industrial sewing machines with us to each location. The pieces worn were literally made on the spot, sometimes just minutes before they had to be shot. I work best under pressure, and in the entertainment world things are usually needed immediately or last minute. I'm good and fast at what I do and I have a good team to back me up.
Do most of your relationships with stylists happen that organically?
Yeah, it's all word of mouth. I'm so bad at Instagram. We only have 1300 or 1400 Instagram followers. And working with a lot of stylists and creatives, you notice how small the community is. Everyone knows each other. Also I think some of my clients are very secretive about me. Like, they know they've found something good and they don't want anyone else to know. [Laughs].

Britney Spears "Oops... I Did It Again" music video
What about working with Rihanna on the ANTI tour?
It was a collaboration with Mel Ottenberg. I was mainly in contact with him. He and Rihanna's team had a vision, and we came together and collaborated on ideas for how to get her what she wanted. I like the kind of low-key, underground vibe that we have going on. It's cool because sometimes it's a collaboration, and other times they'll give me free reign to do whatever I think is best. I really enjoy the collaboration process with Mel. [Rihanna's] team is so good, and they know exactly what they want.
You mention working with Beyoncé — did you help design for her?
The first time I worked with her and her team was for the VMAs. I don't know if you remember but she pretty much had a mini concert. We did a bunch of stuff for her dancers then, and we recently did about 75 different things for her Formation tour. There were a lot of leather and vinyl bodysuits, pants, and other things. Hopefully she wore a few of them.
What else are you working on at the moment?
We just did some jackets for Gigi and Bella Hadid, Ariana Grande, and Tracee Ellis Ross, plus a couple of other projects that I currently can't talk about. I'm also working on my own line. I don't know what I'm gonna call it, but it's gonna be everything that is my vibe. There will definitely be a heavy leather influence, but a little more minimal in terms of silhouettes. A lot of punk, rock, goth, camp, and sport vibes. In the past I've tried to appeal to the masses, and I've realized that as much as I like pleasing others, I don't want to turn into a Forever 21 or an H&M. Mass merchandise is not my vibe. I just want to make statement pieces that I like to wear, and want to see people wearing. Im planning to open up a store in the fall somewhere in Silver Lake or Echo Park.

Posting this as a heads up to other users selling jackets (really any items for that matter), just went through a terrible grailed transaction as a seller that resulted in me losing ~$1000. I recently sold off a brand new forest green Vanson dare devil jacket that fit me too small. Once the jacket arrived to buyer, I received an email a couple days later saying that the jacket was scratched and he wanted a $150 refund. I assumed there must have been a small scuff or something super minor since I knew the jacket had never been worn and I gave it a close inspection when I first bought it. I told him to send me some photos of the damage so I could file a claim with the post office, then I would work with him on a refund. He refused to send me any photos and immediately opened a paypal claim. I figured, alright this is fine, I will upload my pre-shipment photos that show the jacket in new condition then work through paypal to come to a conclusion About 3 weeks later, paypal comes to a resolution and opts to refund the buyer and return the jacket. All good with me as I expected the jacket to just have a minor scuff or something small (not sure why this guy kept refusing to send me any photos). just received the jacket back today, and below are the pre shipment vs post shipment photos. At this point, there really isn't much saving the jacket. This cut goes damn near through all the leather. It looks as if someone got excited opening the box and sliced right through it, then made some attempt to buff or sand it out. Never really seen anything like it. Unfortunately, paypal doesn't really seem to give a **** about its returned condition. The buyer claims that when he received the jacket initially, it was in good packaging and doesn't feel that this damage was caused during shipping. He insisted that I sold it to him with this cut and never mentioned it (like this would somehow go unnoticed). I get the feeling that this damage was either accidentally done by the buyer or intentionally done in order to receive a refund on a purchase he no longer wanted. Regardless, I feel that paypal offers about zero support to a seller in a situation such as this. To make matters worse, this was the one jacket I didn't get shipping insurance on because the damn mail guy that day couldn't figure out how to add it for an international shipment and he didn't have anyone else there to help him. all in all, generally a pretty ****** situation. I Contacted paypal today immediately after seeing the jacket and they are supposed to keep the claim open and contact me again for me information, but I don't really see them going my way on this.
I just read all this and all i have to say is wow that sucks. I suspect the guy either used a knife to open the box and sliced the jacket or did it after the fact to get his refund. Either way that sucks big time as its a really nice jacket and damaging it is messed up. Few things i want to add: 1. You can print USPS shipping labels and etc at home and its early straight forward so you can buy insurance yourself. I opt for this all the time because the people at the post office take forever and i just like dropping off my package. 2. Is there a potential to email Vanson directly and tell them the story maybe they'll be able to do something. For example replace that section, i know nutty but doable. 3. Johnson Leathers in san francisco maybe able to suggest something.

Bought this recently and initially thought it was the OG zip from 2001, however, I noticed the zips (MRS as well) on mine were differently shaped when comparing to the original. I might be overthinking it :foo:

Can anyone tell me the year on this? Its made of a thick and juicy calf and has air vents on the pits. Any help would be appreciated!

EDIT: OG 5 ZIP FROM 99SS
