1. How much VAT do I pay?
2. Do I have to pay import duties?
3. Can the VAT/import duties be refunded if I have to return the product?

It's very confusing to me, as no VAT is added at the moment I should place the order...

But when I ordered 5 at one time, was hit with an unexpected $200 VAT/duties/tax.
Was not happy with that surprise or explanation.

Seems you are safe from surprises in smaller orders or dollar amounts.

2. In the EU there are no import duties.

Was not happy with that surprise or explanation.

Seems you are safe from surprises in smaller orders or dollar amounts.

That's why you live in the USA and unfortunately custom duties are not on us.
We do our best to save our customers from unexpected taxes but it's not always possible.

The bill I am asked to pay is over $200 and this had not happened on 10 orders prior. Yes, the order was larger, because I had gained comfort ordering from you so was trying to save on shipping costs.

That said, I love your product. Was on a roll buying from you before this. Wish you well, and as long as others see this, they can avoid my mistake by ordering smaller quantities in each order.

Precisely because you have ordered 10 times before this one you know that we always try to make our customers satisfied and that this time there was a misunderstanding (or a forgetfulness if you asked to split the shipping).
We always split that shipping if explicitly requested by the customer (otherwise we don't, also because we pay shippings so we do it just for our customers' happiness).

Precisely because I have ordered before, I expected no surprises.

You have confirmed and suggested that split packages would be no problem,
and that you know where the cut off for duties taxes applies.

You are in position to protect your clients from my experience. Just as these posts here will help them since it seems you will not preemptively help clients avoid unexpected charges. But you lean on your small print rather than boldy posting the cutoff, so future customers would know how much they can spend without paying unexpected costs.

SUMMARY:
SMALLER ORDERS AVOID UNKNOWN DUTIES AND COSTS THAT MAY UNEXPECTEDLY BE ASSOCIATED WITH LARGER ORDERS!

Of course we are sorry for the unexpected charges but here I represent our website https://isuit.it and in our homepage there's this banner.

It's your duty as customer to keep yourself informed about the customs duties of your country (and ebay's too) that's are not on us and if there's a doubt you should ask first. Sorry if it seems rude but we don't deserve these hard words. We can't give for granted that every customer wants to split its package and of course we can send an email to everyone everyday.

If you wanna give us another try we offer to pay for you the customs duties on the next order.
