Another day of no madras. Back to tweed and flannel.

The weather in NYC is overcast and cool, and has been periodically slightly damp today as well. I am just back from a week's voyage on the Queen Mary 2, with a couple of extra days in London. (Postings from the QM2 will occur once I've organized the photos a bit more.) In the interim, I am due at the Metropolitan Opera this evening for a performance of "The Hours", for which I'm wearing the suit which I packed for the QM2, and a shirt that was packed, but wasn't worn on the trip - not the acme of my creative fecundity, to be sure, but adequate for the task at hand.

Suit - Paul Stuart/Phineas Cole
Shirt - Tyrwhitt
Tie - Brooks Brothers
Cufflinks - Deakin & Francis
Pocket square - Polo Ralph Lauren
Shoes - Paul Stuart house brand

Madras is back, baby. Does it look familiar? Don’t open the spoiler. You can’t handle it.

So these are all the same pattern, but the coloration is different in most of the pieces. The tie and shirt are almost a perfect match. The jacket uses a lighter green than the shirt and tie. The pants are very different. They are an oxford fabric where the jacket is more of a poplin. I’d never wear this outside, but thought I’d share.

  • Love them, classic!

  • Occasionally, depending on the outfit

  • Prefer flat-front

  • Never wear them
