Carlos Santos Shoes - Feedback & Appreciation

Their Lasts run large, imo. I’m a
9.5 US and wear an 8 in CS 401.

Hi guys, I could use some insight into sizing a new pair of the Z401 last.

In general:
- Brannock 11, 282mm long and 112mm wide with thin socks
- Loake Capital last > Clear UK10, UK9.5 too narrow
- Barker 460 Country last > Had to size down from UK10 to 9.5
- Red Wing 8 last > Tried an UK9 and settled on a UK9.5

My feet are slightly on the wider side, but generally not enough to go with a G-fit. It's a 2nd hand purchase, so don't have the option to return (as they are still new, shouldn't take a massive hit either).

Could you advice me?

You should be fine with 9.5.

This thread has been pretty consistent that CS's 401 may come up slightly large. I'm in between UK 9.5 and 10, so it's worth it to take a small gamble and made the purchase of the 9.5.

They are black cap Oxfords, so exclusively with thinner socks. I'll report back once they're in!

Small update, I've send my measurements to Carlos Santos and quickly received a reply. They suggested I might even go with a 9UK which is a full size down from my Loake's Capital last (UK10).

Since I know my feet are slightly wide and expand quite a bit at times, I think 9.5 UK will be perfect. I'm more worried about them being too small than having a little extra space.

I am UK10 in most shoes
Bought a pair of CS boots on 401 size 9.5 and they are too big need thick socks wish I had gone down a full size to UK9

Do not buy anything based on measurements ever. I sell thousands of santos shoes yearly and would never make any recommendation to anyone. 9.5 should be correct here, but it always depends.

The shoes arrived today and the 9.5 advice was spot on. They may be ever so slightly tighter compared to the Loake brogues with Capital last in UK10, but it's the correct size for me.

Very happy with these. The leather, last and finishing definitely feel like a step up from the Barker and Loake shoes I've had so far. There's a lot more shape to the shoe, sturdy feel to the leather while still being comfortable.

I don't expect a lot of wear out these (maybe my graduation ceremony this summer), but I'll be very much looking forward to putting these on.

Just Google Carlos santos handgrade and see the few retailers that have them.

If you mean the handcrafted range, I am not an affiliate so I can’t tell you where to look. There’s barely any.
